"I think you have a tire fetish" after I explained why several of our cars have summer tires, winter tires, and track tires....

"It's not so much a collection as an endless series of 6 month test drives".

But my favorite quote was to her godmother.... "Bill had way too many cars at one point but we're down to just 12 now. 12 is a manageable number"

BINGO... new floor established....

Hello?

Hey! What color Mustang did I drive today?

Uh.....

Wait...Damn, I drove the Bugeye didn't I?

Uh....I think so!?!

Is the top in the car? I just got my hair done with Shelly.

No, it is right here by the blaster.

I'm gonna stay off 80 so I can drive slow and not mess up my hair.

O.K., just don't go down Rae road.

Why?

They just repaved everything from the car lot around the big sweeper past the church all the way to just past the day care.

Cool!!! Gocart time....later...click

"If you're getting new tires you have to get rid of the old ones." After I explain that the old tires still have some life in them she said "If those are still good then you don't need new ones." Stupid logic working against me.

When we considering the Vette I mentioned that in addition to being a fun cruiser it would also make a nice autocrosser. She pointed out this was to be her fun car and that I was already prepping a car for autocross this season. After getting the Vette she drove it all day while I was at work. We went for a ride that evening and she said "This WOULD make a good autocross car. Too bad you've already dumped your budget into the Focus."

I bought my old 320i, and in her weekly call to her mom, my wife tells her "Bob just bought a BMW"

MinL - "wow, how much did it cost?"

Wife - "$800"

MinL - "You mean $80,000?"

Wife - "No, it's an old BMW, $800"

MinL - "Oh, then it was $8,000?"

Wife - "No, it was $800. You, know, 8-0-0 point 0-0?"

MinL - "Does it run?"

We laughed for about a week....

He ain't the only one out there..one of my old SCCA Corner Worker buddies (female) is married to a guy who doesn't care at all about the sport. I'll bet he's never been to a race. They're still doing good, though..She's not into project cars & stuff, so they never argue about it. She goes to the track, he does whatever else it is he does, and they stay cool.

OG3, get some pix and post up a Readers' Ride! I love E21s. Had a grey market 323i as a young man, and would probably still have it if I hadn't wrecked it.

Hey, if 320s are getting that cheap, maybe I need one and an M20 donor! I've looked at E21 323s, but they seem to be the only GM car in this country that's actually increasing in value..

It actually was/is a decent running, reasonably clean little car. Nothing to write home about, though. I have pictures somewhere, I could post one up. Another fellow has posted his in the readers ride, much nicer than mine (look for JRCook or something close... turbo and all that...).

If you want a nice E21 323i, there's a guy about 40mi south looking to sell his. Back when I would have considered buying it he wanted $7K, offered him $5K, no deal. Two or three years on, he's looking to sell, and might sell it for $4500. If I hadn't had put together a new motor, interior, etc... for mine, I'd consider it now . Bad timing for me. Way clean car though.

My wife isn't really a car person- if they start every time she turns the key and handle better than a battleship she's happy. However, my father-in-law is an old-school gearhead and Mopar fanatic, so she was exposed to the disease from a young age. She doesn't understand it, but she tolerates it very well.

Wife quotes:

I want another little zippy hatchback, one with the flappy shifters they talk about on Top Gear. (She thinks this is a good compromise between my desire for manual transmissions and her lack of desire to drive one)

It could be worse, you could be one of those guys who is obsessed with golfing.

Over my shoulder when looking for some new protective gear: Buy a really good helmet. Your cars are ****-boxes, you need all the protection you can get.

Undress on the back porch, you're not coming into the house like that. I'm serious, go.

Her.The delivery guy just threw a box of car parts on the porch. Me: How do you know it's car parts? Are you opening my mail now? (said in a joking way) Her: No, I didn't open it. It has to be car parts, I didn't order anything.

If you buy another car without selling one of the ones you have, I'm going to consider it permission to redo the kitchen. (This worked, btw, see below)

Just this weekend: You just spent 10 hours working on a car you don't even like any more. When are you going to paint (daughter's) bedroom? (BMW 325ix for sale!)

Don't let that stop you..we really like nice finds and big (or even weird) projects around here. Of my own 4, the one that's got the most votes is the Alfa I drug home that isn't even running yet.

Oh, I wish. In this economy, there are a lot of great deals for anybody who can scrape some extra money together. I was just shocked that I saw some "mothballed" Euro E24s for less than $2K, but the only Euro E21s in the same state were about $3K. That even included the three 320/6 and even a dead Baur I saw!

Going back to on-topic, I found an old friend from high school/college on Facebook. I'd posted up an old pic of my 323i to a photo album. She asked, "Is that the same BMW we took to see REM in Oxford (MS)?". I said I didn't know, since I also had an old beat up E3 at the time. She replied, "Hell, I'm lucky even to remember that it was a BMW." I'll bet that if she'd been 10 years older at the time (the 1980s "yuppie" period), she wouldn't even have remembered that. I still recall my older neigbors back then thinking BMW was an acronym for "British Motor Works".
