The last couple of years since I've been in Arizona I've wanted to get back into some sort of amateur motorsport. Back in Pennsylvania I had done a few autocrosses over the years and always had a good time. Nothing too serious, just an excuse to keep my skills sharp for the urban racetrack of traffic or inclement weather.
Welp, after nearly 8 years in Arizona, I'm headed to a local rallycross. In my Beater Prius. Run what ya brung!
While doing research on the subject, I found someone who sounded awfully doom and gloom about the whole thing. They were concerned that SCCA's cancelation of Rally Sprint might translate to rallycross having a similar fate.
What's the story on that? Do I have to worry that if I go out and buy a more dedicated rallycross car that SCCA Rallycross will get shut down in the future?
Honestly, go support your local rallycross venue and have fun! Don't worry about regional / national issues. There are plenty of people in this country trying to destroy any and all things fun. Go have fun!
When the SCCA drops support (which let's not kid ourselves, is really just insurance coverage), local organizers will self insure and events will continue, just not under the SCCA banner and the fame and fortune that SCCA rallycross champions make. Maintaining sites to run is the larger issue, competing at local events keeps sites viable for organizers, so go run locally and enjoy.

This... sort of. At some point you may want to branch out beyond the local pool. At that point you can let those issues concern you.
Nothing is guaranteed, but there are still events running now, so get out there and participate.

Some never branch out beyond the local pool. Honestly, the one you go to most often will be the local one. Without local rallycrosses there will be no National ones.
