Why would anyone want to make believe their a cop and drive around looking like a cop?

You traded the Bluesmobile for this?

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Charger. I even like my P71, but at $1300 it was easy to like. When Chargers get down to that range for a old cop car, I'll probably revisit this one. $4k+ is just more than I think they are worth.

For what it's worth, I paid $3,300 for my 1995 9C1  Caprice in 2000. That's $4,800 in today's money.

I'd go with the G35. Chargers chew through front end components and can get gnarly lifter tick through the MDS system. G35s also drive way better than Chargers and are less likely to be abused (cop cars go through more hell than any vape bro could put a car through).

The two G35’s I had looked at some time ago we’re both ex-rentals and looked to be well cared for. I cannot disagree with what you’re saying.

It is frustrating wanting 300+ hp in a rwd car and having such a low budget. I can pay lots more but as a father of 3, my funds are tied up at the moment!

It was this, which wasn't posted by you;

"I don't see how you could go wrong with one of those: Hemi, Big Brakes, scares potheads. Big cool factor if it has the black steelies with the chrome dog dishes."

I mean, this is cop cosplay stuff.

G35 is just about as quick as an older HEMI Charger with the 5-speed auto

I'd just take that - you know it's got less abuse than ex-cop cars

I just looked into the veracity of this statement. It’s true. Read statements from several experienced as well as inexperienced drivers of both vehicles and the results bear out what you’ve stated! Interesting!

Ok, I can see that.

Ive driven both and I personally would take the G35. I actually think the type of acceleration the G35 gives is more fun because it revs higher and 'sounds sportier'. The v8 charger is kind of an old school american sedan that's been made generically good. So yeah, it's got power and it's not a pile of crap (unlike the old american sedans) but it's sort of boring aside from that. The regular hemi cars aren't super fast or super good handling. The g35 is not faster than a hemi charger, but it's faster than you expect it to be and it's sporty in general. I just think the G35 feels like a more focused, competent drivers car while the Charger feels like a very plain car with a big engine. I would say the Charger is slightly more reliable, though.

Thank you for your measured response!

Out of curiosity, are you factoring in the ex-patrol-ness of the Charger?

It may be odd to most of you but refined is almost a negative here. Since what I really want is a 70’s Challenger, the newer Charger will be much more refined than that.

Yes, exactly.  That's what I was trying to say.  Sure, the Charger has more hp, but that's not everything.  The G35 is still darn quick, and the driving experience is far, far better.  It's a drivers car.  The Charger is a boulevard cruiser.  Not that it's a bad thing, but they're different.

No, and I don't know how much better those are. I've briefly driven an SRT8 and while it's definitely sharper it doesn't turn it into a handling car. It's one of those things where it exceeds expectations but doesn't encourage you to drive it that way. I assume the cop-spec lands somewhere in between and likewise is competent but not exciting. But I admit that that's an assumption. I do think cop-spec will satisfy your desire for the car to not be fancy!  And one thing about old G35s is that they often have an interior that used to be nice. If you can find a good one it's a nice interior, but a lot of them have cracked dashes, cracked leather, and delaminating door panels. Something that used to be nice is way more frustrating than something that's not fancy but it's holding up well.

You helped me decide that the Charger is more me at least, even if it’s not sensible. Likely not better at much than the Infinity apart from being more raw which suits my personality much more. I’m not sure very many guys in their 40’s will understand the awkward feeling I get sitting in a plush interior. I listen to Slipknot really loud, I work out in a shed with no heat in the New England winters and no AC in the summer and drove Samurais and gutted XJ Cherokees most of my life and still I haven’t grown out it. Trust me that the less refined Charger will be 10x more refined than what I’m used to.

No, that's potheads being paranoid.

My driving habits never changed once I acquired the 9C1. Other drivers made assumptions and acted accordingly.

+1 would also take the less sensible charger.
