So we've still got a sizeable punchlist on the Wartburg but its mostly "should do's" not "must do's" so I took a moment to evaulate the tow vehicle. #%$&*@ Hydroboost is leaking and one front caliper is siezed up, got a light trans leak too, but we've lived with that for awhile and will proably continue to do so.
Really dont want to be messing with brakes this late in the game, hoping I can slide the master cylinder off the hydroboost without breaking the lines so I only have to bleed the calipers.
Looks like Im gonna be eating ramen on the trip though....stupid parts are expensive.

Sorry. It's awesome that you'll be there, though.

Given our general lack of "give up" I assume we'll be there, but let's cross our fingers that we dont hit any snags on the truck repair or we may have to drive the Wartburg to florida...oi..that would be painful.
There ya go. Never give up!
The last hydroboost I did bled easily. Like one pump, shoot fluid onto the wall, and done. Hope yours goes as well.

Im hoping to not disconnect the lines at the master so I should just have to bleed out the front calipers. Looks like enough play in the lines to slide it off the booster and swap.
Just been having a bad brake month on my dad's beetle so I'm not looking forward to it. Right now Im just hoping to get the parts in time to get something done. Local place said 3 days, 5 if there's a weather delay....weather delay?!? WTF?

Sounds like the parts have to be flown into town. I'm into 90s VW watercooled stuff, that's how I know that.

Most likely, which id expect with my VW stuff but usually GM stuff is in stock or worst case, at the local warehouse and takes a day to come in.
Just praying its here before the weekend, looks like we have a drivetrain donor for next years Lemons car to pick up sunday ;)
I could possibly get you down to Gainesville, but not back to NJ.

I appreciate the offer but I'm sure we'll find a way, even if it means renting a truck.

I drove the darned thing solo to Alabama, if I gotta drive it to Florida we'll be there.
Truck should be fixable, if the danged parts would just arrive.
Really sad part is on the team we have 3 other possible tow vehicles but only the Land Rover (Sonic) is registered and I think the trailer is a bit much for the Landy (its a heavy trailer)
Got a chevy 1/2 ton owned by LittleTurquoiseB that he bought for $75, not registered yet and dont know that I'd trust it to make it to my house let alone FLA.
And TheWake owns a lovely ford Waaaambulance which was supposed to be our tow vehicle anyway but for some reason now it has languished for a year and a half with some brake issues (sensing a theme) that noone has time to fix.
Yeah. Well, there's always the odd thing to fix, no?
My $75 Chevy is a 3/4 ton ie: 2500 4wd! (and has brake issues)

Sorry, never seen it forgot the details. More brake issues....it must be our thing.

And while my Land Rover would probably be OK with the car and the trailer (if we get the brake setup to work), having out 5 butts and luggage and tools and whatnot would really work it hard.

Watch your language, young feller, this is a public market. Now if you want a Hydroboost, I can order it for you, have it in a couple of days.
O Brother, it's hotlinked!
Shew, I don't feel so bad then.... Only on the trailer because of no brakes.
But yall really need to try this at least once in your lives....

^ hate to say it but I've done things like that more than once.
Well the parts arrived today, in the 90s and humid as all hell of course...just my luck. Took a 1/2 day from work, hydroboost is in. For 6 bolts and 3 hoses it sure is a pain in the butt. Gotta go mount tires on the trailer so I can get my jackstands out from under it and then I'll get on the calipers. Looks like we'll be ok.
The rest of the crew is coming by tomorrow to finish Wartburg prep and if we finish early we may even go pick up our new drivetrain donor for next years Lemons car :)

Feeling a bit better now, calipers are on, just need to bleed in the morning so we're back on schedule to complete work on the Wartburg.
Ya think this might have been a problem trying to tow a trailer with car on a 1 ton quad cab dually?
