I need to replace some of the bolts in my gear puller set. In helping my neighbor get a brake drum off a couple of the ungraded bolts stripped. If figure replacing the bolts will be easy but also wondered if I should upgrade to graded hardware.

I am happy with the set overall and have used it a number of times. So no need to replace the whole set just several bolts. I do not use a puller on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Just as needed.

As I see it here are the pros / cons:

Pros of upgraded bolts – they will be stronger and last longer.

Potential cons of upgraded bolts – the stronger bolts could strip the threads of whatever part I may be pulling.

Part of me wants the bolts to be the fusible link, the other part of me has never damaged a part I was pulling with grade 8 bolts that I have been using on my balancer and steering wheel pullers since the ones that came with them stripped or bent

You read my mind. Don't tell anyone about the other stuff you saw there.
