So, realistically theres going to be very little speed/quickness differential on the autocross ciurse between the two, correct?
And i cant break 13.50 on the strip. Dont have tbe safety gear for it.
Avons may squeak out a little faster due to more acceleration force out of corners in third, with potentially less shifting. Hoeever, may be offset by less contact patch, or be harder to control with the throttle. Right?
Sounds right to me, the Avons would definitely be harder to keep from spinning between the narrower (technically not smaller) contact patch and the smaller diameter.
A wider tire will let you carry more speed through the corner to the exit. That extra speed somewhat negates the gearing advantage that the Avons might have.
I guess it all boils down to testing. Which means i probably need to FINISH the car.....
+1 to test test test. Its going to come down to which tire is stickier. Age, cycles, compound, etc.
I'm not familiar with SM tires, but I thought they were fairly long-wearing road race tires compared to autox compounds.

I did too, until I used a well used set at the 2017 Challenge. They stuck well, heated up far more than expected. We had to let 3 psi out of the tires twice in 6 runs they were warming up so much. Hot to the touch, which really surprised me and I've road raced on Hoosiers in the past.
