One is local and I want to look at it. But:
"Move along, this is not the project you're looking for..."
or
"Don't think too long, just buy it already"
Any caveats?
Suggestions?
Thanks

I absolutely loved the way they looked when they came out, and they still look good to me. They were the first sports car I remember seeing back then with rounded lines and I liked the black lines across the front.
Never driven one, and the numbers don’t pop on paper, but I still sort of want one just for nostalgia.
Celica wiki for those like me wondering what Gen 5 was

If THIS I would not ask. (sadly it's NOT). But it is a GT S.
The GT-S has good bones but is seriously let down by the 5S-FE engine we got in America. If you're willing to swap in a 3S-GE or 3S-GTE and it's clean I would go for it.
I have a huge soft spot for these and would pick one up myself as a swap project if I could find a clean non-sunroof GT-S.

I had a friend with a really really nice GT-4 at the same time I had my 97 GSX, and was very disappointed that the GT-4 was a letdown at autox compared to it.
I had a '90 GT-S back in the mid 90s and it was a fun car. Lightened flywheel, an under drive pulley and exhaust made it a fun little car.
Before that I had an '86 GT-S with a 3S-GE, the 5S was no slouch after the mods. I also had an All-Trac.
I say go for it!

I'm 6'3" and my head is touching the roof on sunroof models. Without a sunroof it is quite a bit better, but GT-S models were usually pretty loaded and it's uncommon to find them without a sunroof.
Get you a 2zz one and the trd supercharger (there was one for sale not long ago for $500) and she's a ripper. Stock it's effectively a Corolla, and that's not a bad thing.
An automatic sadly. I might have to venture down that path one of these days, but not. yet.
That red one is beautiful, Slippery...
