Before I make a misteak, how well does the F23 hold up to about 300 hp and track/autocross use?

I know just about zero on FWD trans.

Did it even come with an LSD?

Hmm that site seems to think the F23 is an automatic as they mention a Tiptronic version might be coming whereas this is definitely a manual

OK, I found some answers, although a little contradictory, on Wiki of all places.

The F23 is a five-speed manual transmission manufactured by Getrag in Italy. It can handle torque inputs of over 230 newton metres (170 lbf⋅ft)

It features compact packaging, broad low-torque applications, and reliable operation.

BROAD LOW-TORQUE APPLICATIONS were the words that jumped out at me.  Also 170 lbs of torque doesn't seem like it goes with 300 hp.

AND THEN LATER IT SAYS:

It also has a following in the ecotec racing community for being able to handle 700hp with an LSD insert and only costing about $200. It does not have the problems that plague the F-35 found in the SS

700 HP AND 170 lbs of torque?!?!?!

There's sometimes a pretty significant difference between what a trans is rated to handle for torque while remaining at production car durability / abuse resistance and what it'll actually handle with a shorter lifespan and less tolerance for abuse.

Yep.

Torque ratings are also generally done in first gear.  So you see things like T5 transmissions rated for anywhere between 190 and 300 ft-lb  depending on which ratio set it has.  The people pushing 700hp through them are probably not getting traction in 1st or 2nd gear, and if they were, they're doing it in a low shock environment.

Must be a rotary! cheeky

Assuming peak torque is all the way up at peak HP then that would be 21625rpm. Peak torque at a lower RPM would mean that the peak HP is at an even higher rpm. Maybe it's a turbine, not a rotary!?

No, the specs said it was only rated for about 170 pounds of torque but the Ecotec guys said it was good to about 700 hp.  Those 2 things together simply don't compute to me.

Well  mine wouldn't be in a traction limited situation since it's mid rear running some serious sized tires and a track car only.

The trans in my car is "rated" for 325 ft-lb but people have found that they live just fine at over double that.

Ratings are different than what you can get away with for a while in the real world.
