Looooong time lurker, first time poster.
My set of CarbonX underwear are 10+ years old now, and showing their age in a few places.
Can anyone share thoughts or experience in the differences between the CarbonX versus the newer stuff made with Nomex / Lenzing from the big names like Sparco, Sabelt, Traqgear? They all say that they're lightweight and breathable, but I'm struggling to find any info into just how they might differ in a practice. I should probably add that I've never worn anything other than the CarbonX (I won it in a raffle from the company), so I don't any frame of reference for what other materials are like.
Thanks!
Seeing and touching them in person will reveal their similarities and the sometimes small sometimes big differences. If you can't see and touch before buying, try to order from somewhere with a good return policy.
Stay away from the off brands ime
I've got a full base layer set from Traqgear. It's soft, pliable, and very breathable. It's really impressive compared to old-fashioned Nomex gear, which always seems to bunch up and feels like you're draped in wet towels.
I went with Crow for my undergarments. Funny enough, went and opened the package at VIR in the cold pit in front of everyone. Put them on and found the crotch area is very gracious(i am not) and it looked like i was packing some serious heat. Friend told me to stuff a banana in there and walk the pit for intimidation tactics.
They fit good though, the price is right and they arent too constrictive around the dad bod/beer gut.
