I currently drive a 2014 Suburban LS (cloth seats) as my work truck. This is my third Suburban/Yukon but the only one where I really dislike the seats. I spend a lot of time driving, 35k per year. The '04 Yukon I just got rid of had leather seats that were as comfortable as could be. Prior to the Yukon was a '97 Suburban with cloth seats that were very nice. I am debating getting a used leather seat but am not sure it will be any more comfortable than the cloth. My theory is the seat base is likely the same, just the covering changes. I am going to try finding some leather seats to sit in before I spend any money. Has anyone else owned/driven the past three generations of big GM's and had seating envy? I may try to see if I can fit a previous gen seat into this truck, at least I know I like them. Other options? Thanks

I've been retired from the seating industry for 5 years now, but when I was still working the leather seat cushions and the cloth ones were normally the same foam specs. The only differences were usually limited to the location of the hog ring wires for styling purposes.

Are seating changing through the years or the body above the seats changing/

So it is likely that just switching to a leather seat from the same generation will not get me any better comfort. It seems like they just keep making things cheaper and cheaper but jack the price up on each new generation. I think I will see if I can stuff a previous model seat in as I know they are comfy.

Trucks are just big faux virility symbols these days, nothing "manly" about a soft comfortable seat.

Agreed with above, see if the older seats will fit.

unless you're the guy who needs the truck for work and spends a bunch of seat time in it. then seat comfort means the world to your back after a hard day, and that heated seat back feels awesome.

in general it seems like car seats have been getting less and less comfortable since the 80's.
