Ok, so after the long search, including way too many "what car/ learn me" threads I say good bye to my neon R/T. I now say hello to my new car, an 09 civic sedan lx-sport. Black, lip spoiler, alloys, and extra side bolster. I take delivery in the morning and pics to follow.

Less hp, less torque, more weight.. and you didnt even specifically say it was a manual. You're not selling me here.

I do kinda like those cars. Not a huge fan of driving that powertrain. Gears too short and actually seems slower than the 1.7/5spd in the previous gen. But i like the cars themselves.

Yes, she is a standard, much to my wife's dismay. As far as power to weight, I don't think any recent front drives can touch the R/T without a turbo. Option 2 was a 3 door Accent, not bad but the civic is nicer.

Im curious about the new accent. My brother has an 09 and its a little boring but they're making leaps and strides every generation. I was SHOCKED at how much i liked the top-spec Veloster Turbo interior.

Anyway, just joshing you, those civics are good cars and pretty good to drive. I just have a peeve about typical short honda 4cyl gearing. I love my Insight gearing that will do 72mph in 2nd gear even on 22" tires. Sigh..

Drive an Accord. You'll hate the long gears.

I had no idea they made an LX Sport Civic. Interesting. My dad had an '08 LX coupe, that thing SUCKED on long drives, suspension was crashy and it had an insane amount of road noise. Must be the I-75 death corridor between Toledo and Detroit. It's like being in a Mad Max movie. I never remember my aunt's sedan being that loud/crashy.

Lesser performance aside, it'll be pleasant to have a "nice" car that has no rattles, is 10x more safe and everything works perfectly and reliably.

It's a boring attitude that doesn't necessarily belong here, but in the end, you'll have a nice car.

Doubtful that they are that long, or that i'll hate them. My main motivation for long gearing is 100 mph in 3rd. I love the 70-100 dash which is what i do the most of on the highway. I hate starting from 70 and having almost nothing left in 3rd, OR being below the bottom of 4th. ick.

Im excited to get my neon PCM back and see how far i will want to take 3rd now. It went to about 85 on stock SOHC rev limiter. Limiter will now be 8100 but i doubt i'll want to take it there. But if i can make enough power at low 7s to take 3rd gear to 100, i'll be happy.

It may not have the power of my neon, but I will autoX that thing. If it can go an entire day without filling the lot with smoke or lighting up my dash like a Christmas tree, I can call that a win.

Honestly those things still feel pretty decent in 1st and 2nd so i doubt the power thing will be an issue at AutoX. What mph does your 2nd gear go to?

i think of 3 things when i hear the word "Serenity"...

1)the fictional space ship..

2)a song by Godsmack...

3)a name brand of adult diapers...

2 is better if you pretend it's about 3..

My first new car was a neon RT. I wanted a black 4 door. There was something else I wanted on it but its been so long I forgot what it was. They stopped making them and I was looking for my car among the leftovers at dealer lots. I finally found one but it had those terrible stripes on it. I agreed to buy the car if they got the stripes off. The dealer agreed.

I drove the car home and brought it back to the dealer the next morning. In the afternoon they called me. They said, "we've got good news and bad news" I said, ok go ahead. They said, "the good news is we got the stripes off the car". Great I said, whats the bad news? "The bad news is sir, we wrecked your car."

Turns out one of the lot boys backed a truck into it. When I inspected the car I saw that the part of the body under the door was bent pretty bad, enough to make me nervous. I told them they could keep the car.

So I had my first new car, a dodge neon RT, for one day. I've been mostly buying used ever since.

Update, I have had the car for almost 6 weeks now. Sooner or later I will add more pictures and a readers ride.

In that time I have put close to 3k miles on it. Mileage has ranged between 33-35. From twisty back roads to a 6 hour interstate drive, she hasn't missed a beat. 4 tall adults fit just fine, things only get tight when there are 3 in back, but with 5 and being solidly over the weight limit she still moved just fine.

So far personal touches are limited to a NY Mets magnet so she is easier to find in a parking lot(and easy to remove when I go into Massachusetts), a 3 way 12V splitter in the glovebox, GPS mounted in the little triangle window with the cord tucked under the dash, and my iCharger.
