Personally, I wouldn't run a fixed back seat without at least a rollbar (and preferably a cage) as I'm overly paranoid about a rollover situation.

However, it doesn't sound like you're doing track events and you're not running it on a daily basis, so I would say the inherent risk in a fixed back seat that you're driving to/from events would be roughly equivalent to the stock setup.

Have you considered having the stock seats modified to suit

I think it's probably safer than the stock seats/belts as there is at least some side impact protection. As far as comfort, they are liveable for an 8 hour drive, but 3-4 hours at a time is much more reasonable. I put tube frame Corbeau's in my Bugeye and with the seat heaters they are as comfortable as my Lexus.

I have a Sparco Sprint V fixed back racing seat mounted to a PCI 1 piece seat mount in my DD Miata. I also have a Hard Dog M1 Hardore roll bar with the harness bar welded in place and a G-FORCE 5 point harness. I feel a lot safer with those installed than I did when I first got the car completely stock.

My daughter and I put Corbeau FX1 Pro fixed back seats w/ Corbeau double locking adjusable tracks, Hard Dog M2 roll bar and harness bar in our Miata. She drives it daily. She said the seating position took a little getting used to (more upright) and had to learn how to get in and out of it but she actualy likes it after getting used to it. She used the stock seat belts on the street. I can drive it short distances but find it uncomfortable (too upright) for any length of time.

I have a Sparco Evo 2 in my Camaro and have driven it 6 hours at a time. It's comfy enough for me.

Once I get my overweight, creaky beat up body into the race seat and the 5 point it's not too bad of a ride. I call this my religious experience, because I usually invoke the name of a Deity when I get in or out of my Miata. The other Miata with normal seats and belts is a lot more pleasant on a daily basis.

What year Camaro and do you use the OEM belts?  Do the side bolsters interfere with the OEM belts?  THX

Zombie thread lives! But it was a 99 Z28. The stock belts worked fine with the side bolsters.
