Really? Who's gonna designs all the GM RWD cars now?
Met a man at a MoPar show in Chicago the had the only legit E49 Charger in the states. I was happy as hell to see a real Hemi Sixpack, and he was happy to see someone who knew what a Valiant Charger was.
They were awesome, the E38 was just a 3 speed, the E49 finally got the 4 speed, damn they were fast for the day though
The 3 speed really limited top end, but they were quick.

I am guessing that Chrysler didn't use the slant six down under?
Just what is this? Specs, history, whatever please....
Here's a decent write up on the Oz hemi 6.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Hemi-6_Engine
The 265 is the engine above.
265 cu in (4.3 L)
Chrysler Hemi 265ci 6-cylinder hemispherical combustion chambers with large intake and exhaust valves (removed) and big square ports
The 265 was introduced in 1971 in the VH. It used a new cylinder block with a bigger bore diameter of 3.91 in (99.3 mm)—the same as many of the Chrysler small-block V8s—and a new cylinder head, having slightly more hemispherical shaped combustion chambers with larger valves.
The standard version of the 265 produced 203 hp (151 kW) @ 4600 rpm and 262 lb·ft (355 N·m) of torque @ 2800 rpm.
The top of the line performance engine in the E49 Chargers produced 302 hp (225 kW) @ 5600 rpm and 320 lb·ft (434 N·m) of torque @ 4400 rpm. The increased power is due mainly to a more aggressive camshaft, high-load valve springs, triple 45 mm DCOE Weber sidedraught carburetors, tuned-length exhaust headers and a higher compression ratio of 10.0:1.
Specifications (for 2bbl carbureted variant):
Bore Size: 3.91 in (99.3 mm)
Stroke: 3.68 in (93.5 mm)
Compression ratio: 9.5:1
Power: 203 hp (151 kW) @ 4600 rpm
Torque: 262 lb·ft (355 Nm) @ 2800 rpm
Intake valve head diameter: 1.96 in (49.8 mm)
Exhaust: 1.60 in (40.6 mm)
Goddamn, a 300 hp inline 6 in the Early 70's. the Americans could have learned some stuff from the Aussies.
In reply to SyntheticBlinkerFluid:
Aussies in the early 70s were probably still burning leaded fuel and pushing exhaust full of all sorts of fun chemicals out a more or less unrestricted pipe.
The Torana was the Aussie version of the British Vauxhall Viva which has the distinction of being the 'donor car' for the Jensen Healey's suspension and axles. J-H types drool at the thought of getting their hands on a Torana axle, it's almost a direct bolt in swap for the J-H rear axle and has a big selection of limited slip diffs etc available.
Sadly the end of an era is here.
The last Aussie Ford FVP Falcon V8 was produced
http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news/last-fpv-falcon-gt-rolls-off-the-line-21238
The Falcon line is dead and the Holden Commodore will die in 2017, lest we forget.

First Aussie Charger I ever saw was in an early 90s issue of Car Craft or Hot Rod. I thought it was really cool then, and still do to this day.
The only authentic Aussie vehicle Ive ever seen in person is an early 70s 4 door Falcon done up as a MFP car from the original Mad Max. The car is local to me.

So this begs the question, with so many of you huuts beungh fans of what us Aussies have, would there be a reasonable market for exporting Aussie cars to the US and possibly Canada?
I mean, obviously there are certain rules relating to vehicle import and the strong possibility someone else is already doing it or has at least tried... But its an interesting idea for sure
Yes. Yes there is. Read a Hemming's Muscle Machines mag about 15 years ago about a guy who brought over an XB Falcon. Cost of the car and importing was about $25,000. For how rare an XB coupe is, I'd say that's not too bad. Besides, how else will we get out ute fixes?

Hmmmm, very interesting, might need to do some due diligence and see if anyone has cornered the market and if there is enough growth potential that I could one day make a living out of doing it.
I know there are quite a few people that do it the other way around and bring US cars and bikes into Australia, I just never realised that our stuff had such an appeal to others.
Now that our unique stuff has ceased production, I can only see the appeal going up over time... There are an awful lot of unicorn fanciers out there, and a lot of people who want something that not everyone else has.

It really is the end of an era, and I truly believe many Australians don't yet realise just how much we've lost.

To be honest, I am surprised the Aussies don't put 4 doors on the 'utes. Cause sure as E36 M3 every other cool car has 4 doors!
Whats with the Australian fetish for 4 door cars?
In reply to NOHOME:
The market demands is why, not enough people to build a 2 door version that is profitable, there was a short period for all three manufacturers where they did build a 2 door but it could not be maintained.
Oh and this happened

You guys down under get all the cool vehicles!!!
If you really want a 2dr down under, far as I can see, the rules are wide open on importation. I'm sure it still has to be inspected, but if it's somewhat current, it's a breeze to pass.
