There are easier ways. I did this whole cage with sand, duct tape, a torch and a vise.

Whoa I've heard of this with exhaust but a cage Does the heat mess with the temper of the steel? What tubing did you use?

What is this "free time"? Last time I needed a bend I bought a 45* crush bend and put some cuts in it to bend it farther, then welded them up. This is ok when its a 1.116 liter engine with a 2" exhaust.

2 things:

1) is it a rule that every video like this never involves using the proper wrench? it's always a crescent wrench or vise grip, and never a simple 3/4" wrench..

2) why did they put the fire so damn far from their bending wheel fixture thingie? it looked like a 50 foot run just to get from the fire to the bender...

It's 1.5 inch DOM. Almost no heat at all. Just enough to help the outside bend a bit, and then only on the very tight bends like the halo. I have kinked and flattened a lot of pipe figuring it out.

Nice work, Martin. Sand bending is a serious art form. I experimented with it using 2.5" 304. My conclusions were that I could learn how to do it very well if I could go through about $10K worth of tubing first. I had the hoop for the Locost bent at a local dirt track shop.

If I do another cage I will be buying a bender. It makes a big job much easier.
