It looks like the Throttle Position Sensor in my 1988 RX-7 may be the cause of my high idle problem. The resistance accross the TPS should be 5k ohm +/-1 at full throttle and 1k ohm at idle. Mine is reading 4.9 at full throttle (OK) but 2.4 at idle (no good). The manual says you need a special diagnostic tool to adjust the TPS. Is there any way I can adjust it myself without the diagnositc tool? ...Or do I need to take the car to a Mazda dealer?

Thanks Bruceman. A couple of LEDs and some spade connectors...I can handle that!

Warning: chances are you'll never get it fixed properly. They're fickle beasties.

TPS is mainly important for idle concerns. If it has to be off somewhere, then let it be off at the top end.
