I used to rally and track day in a MkI and a Mk II Escort back in Oz, they were both awesome fun, somewhat underpowered but neither was a Cossie

Q1. What sort of restrictions do you face preparing the BDA 1600? My father raced SCCA Formula B then Formula Atlantic with a different March chassis on avg every two years starting with a 722. I was always amazed with the motors, starting with essentially the same as a Pinto block and coming out with high revving monsters BDA/BDD Cosworth head 16V motors.

Q2. Interesting point on your car's wet performance. During TT practice at Pocono North course 8/28, nice gentleman with stock white Miata, original suspension and 140k miles on it consistently pulled on me throughout much of the course (my '91 Nissan SE-R ST4 car). Oh, it rained all day pretty much when it wasn't fog. My theory besides being a much better driver, after watching the car over and over dive into the infield off the banking is he really had the right mix of give and roll in the suspension - a wild ride you can see from his rear facing cam on youtube (search CART CT Pocono August 28).

Tighter sprung Miatas were slower, I had no problem keeping a thin margin ahead of most of those. But this white car I just waved through on the straight even with my better overall power and reasonably light weight (145 whp, 2400 lbs), I didn't wish to intrude on his fun.

For Targa? I'd have to go back to the rulebook. The block has to be one that was available in the chassis during the class timeframe and no more than a 20% displacement increase. Otherwise it's pretty open in Modified. I think adding EFI is out, but all sorts of good greasy bits are allowed.

It wasn't so much that my car's wet performance was dramatically better. It's just that my car didn't suffer as much, being underpowered to start with and with a very compliant suspension to deal with lumpy stuff.
