GRM is growing again

I would love to apply for this but moving to Florida would be a real hard sell. That and the fact that I haven't had a sales position. I am golden on the rest though. Damn you GRM for tempting me yet again.

If you guys need an office "Charlie"(think always sunny), I'm your man.

When I first read the title, I thought, "what, Tim's had another kid? Hasn't it been like 30 years since the first? How old is he? How old will he be when this one graduates from college?"

This is my first post here. I applied for this position & Tim got right back to me! I've got experience and am already close in Florida. The problem is that I have very little knowledge about this industry. (Always let the guys change my oil!) I hope to be one of the people he does interview!

Can anyone help me take a "crash course" on learning more about what I need to enrich my gearhead knowledge. What types of advertisements (besides everything for free) would you like to see? Where should I focus my attention most?

Go to a local autocross or rallycross and talk to the participants.

I guess if I had to say it in a nutshell, we grassroots people like stuff that works at reasonable prices sold by people who know what they are talking about and won't disappear in the next couple of weeks.

To look at it another way, there are plenty of cheap coil over kits used to lower cars (and pretty much only lower cars). We'd probably be more interested in ones that are actually tuned to improve a given car's handling.

Just answer every interview question with "Miata". You'll do fine.

Also, any knowledge of patio construction and/or concrete or how to remove Por-15 from bodily parts without damage is a plus :)

Seriously though, read the wiki and go to some local events and talk to some common folks. That's what Tim's and others have done. No need to make it too complicated.

Ever tell SWMBO something certain you know the answer and you get the complete opposite answer from what you were expecting. Told Tiff about the job, its for the magazine (response was "oh for the forum you are always on?"). She told me to go ahead and apply she wouldn't mind a change of scenery. We don't have much holding us where we are at right now and heck considering I just graduated might as well go for a move.

Just one problem...I would have to consolidate some. Moving 7 cars across the country would be a PITA. I am told the Olds and Buick would be coming no matter what. Got room for a G Body at some autocross down there?

Besides no cable or satellite at home means more time to troll the forum at night. Heck if anything I may not have enough of a dork status to actually WORK for GRM.

On a side note telling the wife about me applying for the job had unexpected results. No more complaining about me being on the forum and I even caught her reading the latest issue. She even talked about us eventually setting up and autocross car for her

I wonder, when you get the job, or if, will Ultra Dork be printed on your business card? That's pretty prestigious stuff from a Reader's perspective

Its a long shot considering I would need to relocate from Oregon, but heck it is worth a shot to work for my favorite magazine
