So who's going and what days? With registration open it seems like an ok time to start talking.

I registered ambitiously in the MG in DM so I will be there Monday afternoon through Thursday AM.

I still need to finish the car so if anyone wants to come thrash on it ...

We should have a GRM board get together. Consider a GRM paddock area? Dunno I'm looking forward to it this year though. Really really hope to have the car running.

I am maybe 50/50 at this point in STS. Depends on wife's school schedule, kid's school schedule, grandma's babysitting schedule, whether any of my vehicles would survive the 2500-mile drive, all that stuff.

Joined this forum yesterday to spread the word regarding the Heritage Classic classes. SCCA Solo participants on this forum are probably aware of those classes formed this year just for small displacement sports cars '75 and older. Formed as a result of the closing of GP and subsequent re-class in which those cars were non-competitive. I'm campaigning a Porsche 914/4 in DP trim which qualifies for Heritage Classic Race. My car was the only car in that class at Dixie Champ Tour but we still had fun. Unfortunately we're now being told by the SCCA that the HC classes will not be offered at 2016 Nationals which will force us to participate in DM as most did last year.

If you own sports car that qualifies for Heritage Classic Street or Race and participate in SCCA Solo, we need your support. Please following the link here to see if your car qualifies...

SCCA Heritage Classic Rules

Join us in our campaign to keep the cars and drivers that helped form the SCCA in Solo participating at Nationals!

I'll be there in the Mustang in CAM-C. David is planning going and taking the Mini JCW. I'll be there early for the CAM Challenge Saturday and Sunday, and to host the GRM Tacos and Talent Welcome Party presented by BFGoodrich (at least I think that's the official name) on Monday evening. If you're coming, get there for the Monday night party and show. It's a good time. I'm also announcing a couple heats Thursday and Friday. So, yeah, it'll be a long week.

Our tent is on the south end of vendor row, right next to the party tent/info tent. Technically we are a vendor space and we can't park a bunch of cars there, but we always have plenty of space for folks to hang out, and sometimes we even have treats.

If you guys want to get a group paddock spot reserved, we'll make sure you have some banners and swag. Let them know when you reserve the spot and maybe they can get you right across from the booth or something. I think the booth usually ends up being adjacent to about row 3, so space probably goes quick.

I'll be in an ES car for the pro finale, but I'm not sure what I'll be driving for nationals yet.

A Historic class for cars running in the SCCA would be a site to behold. Putting a stake in the 30 year rule would be a victory, abet a small one, for those of us who really enjoy the older cars.

On a local bases we have two Pax groups for the older cars. Historic 1 for cars up to 1968 and Historic 2 for cars from 1969 to 1985. Originally the Historic class was a single group that like the current rules, allowed continuation models such as the MGB's mentioned. But we had a need to expand and the result was the second group.

We learned from this second group that in California, cars built after 1975 and running as "Stock" might not be smog legal and need to be trailered to events. But the thing that has stopped it cold is the lack of tires for these cars. We did offer the option of going plus one for the rim size, maintaining the stock width, but again it was the tires. Most of these cars are now owned by people that are not going to roll the fenders for 15 inch 50 series rubber.

The '70 are history. As are the 70 series tires. As is the Heritage Street class. The Race class, that stands a chance and could happen. As long as they stick to the 8 inch wide rims!

In reply to Bobzilla:

Running Tuesday/Wednesday is quite tempting. I think I'll have my best chances in the ES car since I'll have 3 pro's and the finale in it. However, I was just informed that the seat in the mr2 at nationals is conditional: if I beat him at the finale then I'm out lol

I had smaller outer rings made for the rear 10" Dura Lite wheels by Bogart Racing Wheels to get down to 8" x 15". I ran the car at a TRSCCA regional and didn't miss the extra rubber at all.

The Heritage Classes are in the rule books and the timing software has them but the SCCA doesn't want to recognize them at a National level. Ultimately participation numbers will dictate what happens at future events. If you have a car that meets the rules set, HCS and HCR are excellent choices to compete with cars on the same playing field.

Careful what you wish for. Spool is an alien who'll make you feel bad about your skills as a wheelman. It might even be so bad you'll give up internal combustion entirely and go hike the Appalachian Trail. Solo. In winter.
