Anyone here with experience on the VW G60? Problems and/or concerns?
I can tell you my VR six Jetta was the biggest pile I’ve ever driven and had lots and lots and lots of wiring issues
In it's day, the Corrado was considered the FWD 944 and prices are on the uptick. But, the G60 was kinda frowned upon. Mainly the supercharger. But, I've only known people with SLCs (the VR6 engine). I've always liked to looks of the Corrado and the Audi Coupe of the era. The Audis are beginning to get stupid money now.
The supercharger does require rebuilding from time to time. Not sure what the parts availabilty and prices for DIYing are.
One of the best handling fwd cars. Achilles is the g-charger. It's a scroll type and can machine itself to death if not cared for. Still I'd take one if I had the money for a decent one.
As mentioned the Supercharger is the weak point. Otherwise it's basically a MKII VW with the reliable 1.8 4 cylinder.
It's a heavier mk2 with potential electrical gremlins, and a supercharger that will need rebuilding.
Beautiful cars, but the VR6 noises made them that much better. I had a '92 VR6 Corrado many years ago and loved it.
Buy one because you love it, not to flip for profit or win races.

definitely the coolest-looking VWs by far. My roommate's boyfriend in college used to own a tuner shop in this area that did a bunch of Corrado work.
I almost bought one a whilte back, until I mentioned it to my German neighbor, and he said "in Germany, only women drive Corrados." Knowing I'd have to drive by his house every day and be thinking of that annoyed me enough that I bought an Integra instaed (which never had a problem for 100k+ miles I owned it, incidentally).
But yeah, Corrados look awesome.

Reminds me of that “Jetta girl with a blonde ponytail” thing that people used to say.

Jetta’s instead of Cabriolets?
The Corrado is still on my want list. I’ve seen ads for decent looking ones in the 3k range, so I still have hope.
One of the best looking cars ever produced. Well, maybe one of the best looking non-exotic car ever produced. I mean, it's decades old but still looks GREAT.

I had Jason Saini's VR6 Corrado for a few years. The sunroof never worked, and I had to replace the TPS sensor - and I was thrilled when I sold it that those were the only problems I encountered. The Corrado was a great chassis, but suffers numerous problems, especially with age. The G60 as mentioned above does need periodic rebuilds too.
Its been over 20 years since I owned & sold mine, so I have no idea what the current part status is. There's certainly times I've missed it, but I don't see myself ever buying another. It probably won't break your heart or bank like a BiTurbo, but she's not a cheap mistress.
Lots of niggly issues. No longer worthy of being a daily driver, not reliable enough. Electrical issues mostly, sunroof, wing, seat belts, power windows.
As others have mentioned, the supercharger needs periodic rebuilds, and you really need to set up the motor correctly. There's a specific sequence to set the CO % on it in the Bentley and if you don't, the engine runs poorly.
I swapped a G60 motor into my GTI and had it for about 5 years. Once I got it running well it was fun, but I wouldn't want to take on a G60 Corrado now unless I had a ton of time and money on my hands.
Don't crash it. ZERO body parts available. We had one in our shop last year and had to repair a bunch of stuff made of unobtainium that should have been replaced.
I loved my G60, bought it from a GRMer years back and it came with Per Schroeder's VW sport tuning book. How could I turn it down. Yeah it had some electrical gremlins and I blew a heater core, steering rack, timing belt, radiator, trans, engine, and... well yeeeah. It required some commitment. Fortunately most of the parts are run of the mill MK2-3 VW lego. I did have the forethought to convert it to turbo instead of putting a smaller pulley on the g-ladder. The turbo conversion is really easy, an 8-valve turbo manifold is like $75 on ebay. Firewall clearance is real tight so grab a smaller T3 or T25.
I had a 92 SLC. It had a fistful of problems, as mentioned above. I was much younger then. Now that I have a lot more experience and patience, nothing that was an issue with it back then would put me off owning one.
Any comparisons to Porsches must be referring to parts prices -- expensive.
I sent the head out to be reworked by AWE Tuning and replaced the timing chain guides and headgasket. Then added a Schrick cam, uncorked Borla exhaust and performance chip. That was a pretty ambitious project for me at the time. It was my first project more in depth than brakes or alternator jobs.
In retrospect, the autobelts were the biggest letdown of the whole car.
