GT5 finally?

GT5 is finally due out tomorrow and after years of waiting to buy it I have decided I will not.

Yes, graphics, features and physics are better, but since I am not into the exotics, it is not enough of an improvement over GT4.

To buy PS3, the game, steering wheel, HDMI cable, etc will run over $500. I get no FB RX7 (in GT2), no E30, no current Shelby Stang and we won't even discuss no Gen I Neon, Turbo Dodges or VW Super Beetle (ok I am pushing it). However I do get about two dozen Daihatsus.

GT4 is 80% as good as GT5 and I already own it.

NO FB?!

IIRC there's 30 (yes, 30) variations of the 3000GT/GTO- and some of em are even the boring n/a model! And the Eagle Talon ESi? REALLY?

Come to think of it, that's about as close to a 1g Neon as you're going to get...

Don't forget, you also get 42 (or was it 52?) versions of the R32/33/34 Nissan.

In this thread, people don't understand why there are so many Japanese cars in Gran Turismo.

Oh I understand WHY there's so many japanese cars, but it seems to me that putting in identical cars with different model years is a bit of a waste. I'm still gonna play the hell out of it, but- 30 3kgt's? Really? And no FB/SA?

Seems like a fair criticism to me. 1000 cars is only 1000 cars if they're different cars. Geography has nothing to do with it.

Well it's ten times easier to but a similar type of car in the game, as the physics are relatively the same. Doesn't really cost them much more development time to put in every sub model.

Also, who the hells knows what is going on licensing wize. Dodge might be trying to get them to pay ridiculous fees. While many of the grm folk might think the neon is cool, I'm better the average consumer of that game series isn't a big fan.

I love old cars as much as the next guy on here, but if you showed up to a race track and there was a Dodge Neon, VW Super Beetle and a Ferrari 458 Italia sitting side by side and the track official said that you could pick any one of them to spend the day out on the track with, are you seriously going to pass on the Ferrari?

I've been playing GT5 Prologue for a while now and for me, it's more fun to race against other players using high end hardware and get quick lap times, rather than trying to coax a Suzuki Cappacino around the track in a respectable time (despite what a cool little car it is).

Yes, it may cost you $500 to play GT5 if you don't have a PS3 already, but you can't penalize a $60 game of this calibre becasue you don't have the equipment to play it on. If that was the case, you need to add the $700 TV to play it on and the $300 couch you will need to sit on to play it and the $20/month internet access to play online.

Haven't been a great GT fan since I heard of GT5. But I seem to be blessed with online experience with the nissan time trials. Can't wait to spend my life time on GT Academy

I got a text today from GameStop saying my preorder will be in tomorrow. I'm just as annoyed as anyone about the clone cars and carry-overs from GT4, but they did throw a small bone in the form of cockpits for some of them (inlcuding for the FC Turbo, yay!). Here's hoping the racing makes up for it.

You forgot 200$ for a decent wheel/pedal set, and another grand for a good surround sound/cockpit setup.

Luckily I already have the wheel, PS3, HDMI cable and a reservation, so i'll only be out $60!

I don't have the wheel. I grew up on Rad Racer, d-pad is enough for me. But everything else- yeah..... we aren't gonna discuss gamer nerd.

Guys I was kidding about the mini Mopars and alluded to that. I am cool with classic Japanese cars. Heck, I Penn an 85 FB. That, a better version of the old Beetle, an original M3 and maybe some classic MG's are what I lament.

My only criticism of so many Japanese cars is that there are so many nearly identical cars. Pick one or two versions and move on.

I am glad that they were generous with classic American Muscle, although the Ford selection could have been better and maybe a 6.6 liter Trans Am for Pontiac.

If I didn't already have GT4 I would probably be all over GT5, but GT5 has not added a single car or feature which makes me want to bite the bullet for the game and system. Maybe that is because GT4 was very good in it's own right?

What the hell have they been doing for six years???
