I've spent the last few months building this MR2 Spyder Kart from a $1500 purchase. It's fast. FTD'd last weekend. I'm going to take it to the local landfill shortly to get a weight. What's your guess?

The landfill is closed today. I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Track only car?

otherwise, why keep the ws and not add a roll bar?  Especially considering the auto cross class you would end up in.

pretty cool.

Its primarily an autox and $2k Challenge toy.  But it is plated, insured and legal (at least here in FL).  I drive it on the street a little bit.  Windshield is staying for street driving comfort.

Ok. Just was thinking that with a little fiberglass you have the easy button to a DM or EM car, depending on the weight.

I'm betting that it will be lighter than the prepared class limit.

1zz/na,c50 trans? I bet 1725lbs

This is 1900 exactly with a 2zzgte,c60

The parts are always surprisingly light weight on these cars, everything I deleted from mine was light, they worked really hard to minimize weight huh?

Did you depower the rack? That loses a bit of weight and more importantly helps feel a ton.

I've wanted to do this to something ever since the first Vette kart episode of roadkill.

I say 1800#, I don't think the body panels actually amount to much, bumper beams and door crash bars probably make up more than the sheet metal.

I say 1500lbs. Did you sell the parts you removed? You could probably recover all your $1500 doing so. Especially if you depower the rack, as the electric power steering pump sells for ~$300.

Cool project. I love the look of the rear of these with the body panels removed.

I love that these cars are gaining popularity, deservedly so.

Also love the out of the box builds that are happening. Bout time!

The group I run with, FAST, has very simplified classing compared to SCCA.  I'm already in the top class with this car.  No need for fiberglass and there are no minimum weights.

The fenders were very light.  But hood, trunk, bumpers, exhaust, soft top frame and especially the doors did have significant weight.

I have sold off a lot of parts and recouped a significant amount of the purchase price.  I have not added it all up though.  The steering feels pretty great as-is, not sure I want to depower the rack.  All of the power steering bits are up front, where I'd like to try and maintain a little bit of mass.  I did move the battery up to the frunk to help the weight distribution.
