NA miata.. supposedly rebuilt bottom end.. oil pump was installed wrong and is hosing oil everywhere..
Has:
Tien susension
LSD
janky paint job
snugtop hard top..
What do you pay.. guy is asking for $1900 says is negotiable.. it's a non driving car with no way to check any of his work or engine damage. but hardtop has some value. will have to rent uhaul and dolly to get home.
Seems like a lot of coin for a non-runner. If it was a simple fix he would’ve fixed it. There’s a pile of runners on ATL CL for $2-3k
which LSD? which engine? there may only be a couple hundred difference in the value between the two but still.
There's a Miata on the Minneapolis Craigslist with the exact same description and price - is it the same car? https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/csw/cto/d/1997-mazda-miata-hardtop-obo/6727308331.html
I'm always a little surprised at how cheap they apparently are in other parts of the country - besides the one in the link above, the next cheapest car is $3100 and they go up from there.
What does oil pump installed wrong mean? Was the bottom end rebuilt before or after this happened? If the oil pump didn't supply sufficient pressure to the engine, you could be looking at damaged bearings/crank/etc. If you can't determine a convincing answer, you might want to act under the assumption the engine is toast.

I'm guessing.. this.. https://www.flyinmiata.com/oil-pump-blind-plug.html
agree.. assume motor is the shots..
"Oil pump was installed wrong" sounds like Craigslist speak for it spun a bearing but I don't want to tell you that.
If you leave that blind plug out, it won't starve the engine of oil or cause low pressure, it's just where the dipstick would go on an FWD application, so it probably just splashes/mists oil out of the hole. That being said, rust repair that he admits was poorly done, shoddy paint job and a top that isn't OEM, plus an engine that needs work, I'd say a grand tops as well.
If I recall, you're a family man that travels a lot for work. I'd imagine time is at a premium.
Buying something that might need major engine repair seems like it would require way too much time investment.
First rule of being a fun car, is that it has to run.
