My Wifes XC90 is never happy. Fix this. That breaks. Fix those, two more break. The 15 minutes of unbrokenness is pleasant enough but love the Wife, do not love the car. The wonderful Mazda5 of happiness? Starts and goes every time. Zoom zoom love love. Such a happy car.
Unhappy car make happy people sad. Sad people no like car.
I think I'd rather have a broken Volvo than a running Mazda.
Funny timing for this thread.
(Crossing fingers) I haven't had anything go wrong with my Yukon and I hadn't been conscious of it until I was making my coffee this morning and now I read this thread!
Sure beats the opposite!

Not me. I really like Volvos, but no way would I take a constantly breaking Volvo over a dead nuts reliable...and fun to drive...Mazda.

Agreed. It doesn't even have to be fun to drive. If I have to constantly fix something, I'm not going to enjoy it.

This is why i ditch mid 00's gm trucks that we had, which were both thousands deep in major and both making transfer case clunks, and buy new cars. We don't have broken cars constantly, we don't need bunch of backup cars for when "good" ones break, everybody wins. Especially the dealers, but they only win over the parts sellers because I'm breaking even monthly on a 10 year old Avalanche with repairs averaged out plus payments i was making, versus rolling a '16 3500 diesel ram.
Plus, wives get pissed when their car is the one always broken, then they quit trusting it, then nothing can save it from her wanting to ditch it. Anymore I don't want to fix dailies. I like warranty. I wasted so much racecar and hotrod time and money fixing the daily drivers in the last 3 years that instead of sitting broken the chevelle and impala could have been done and scaring children and old people all around town

My neon R/T was the bipolar psycho ex. Constant little things going wrong, one major meltdown every year, but those few shining moments when things went right...
Her replacement is a civic. No drama, perfectly capable of anything you ask of it, but she won't goad you on or ask for more. Honestly, I would love to have Mr. Regular come up with a colorful description of the situation.
My Civic hasn't broken in 200k miles, except for a dead battery last month. But I hate every minute of driving it :/

Having to spend time/money fixing Her car gets real old, real fast. Mrs always gets the newest car in the fleet. +1 for the Mazda. Good Little Toasters.

What if you have a dead nuts reliable and fun to drive Volvo and a constantly breaking Mazda?
Some cars just hate you.
Some cars just want to die.
Why would you love something that hates you? Let it die in peace.

Engine swap?
My only ownership experience with Volvo was a '96 850 wagon. I owned it longer than most cars I've had...about 3 years. That's because I liked it so much and it was reliable as gravity. However, I don't know that newer Volvos are quite as well built.
The Crown Vic's a happy car. Keep gas in it, maintain it on schedule, replace whatever small thing eventually wears out promptly, and you can do whatever you want with it pretty much all day long (or until the tires are showing cord).
In reply to Klayfish:
The engine in the Mazda is the only really reliable part
I sometimes fantasize about a bridge ported 13B in a 740 wagon as an awesome if quirky tow rig. But then I remember that I have yet to see a 700/900 that didn't have a trashed interior and interior quality is important for something you expect to spend a dozen hours a day in.

Interior swap from a first gen S60?
The happiest car i own is 39 years old and gets abused. Never an issue, my truck has reminded me of why i never buy gm products. If it survives another year without catastrophic failure ill be amazed.
I was third or fourth to comment in this thread about how reliable my Yukon is.
Literally 6 hours after that post, I start it up and am hit with a CEL!
I KNEW I shouldn't have bragged.

I'm avoiding any proclamations about my cars in this thread for that exact reason.
