What are people using for the toolbox portion of this combo these days? I will be building mine soon, using it for both track events and camping, of the car camping variety. Since most of that won't fit in the Miata, I would love to semi-secure it when away from the site. I've seen some boxes that nestle down between the rails, that would be preferred.
I think the standard box is the Contico, available at Lowes/Walmart, etc. I have one on mine (bought it with it) and it is mounted on the plywood. If I used the trailer only for autocross, I would take the plywood off and find a way to sink the box into the trailer, but fact is that I use the trailer for a hell of a lot more than autocross. In fact, I've never used it for autocross.
I use a Contico. Bulletproof, secure, weatherproof and rigid.

Only way it would be cheap cheap for me would be if you paid me, due to cost of fuel fuel :( oh, and I don't have enough days off between now and the 24 to get there to grab it :(
First off, does anyone have a measurement between the side rails on o e of these trailers? Hoping to neglect the plastic bin down between them. For those that want to read about actually buying the trailer, continue on.
That was painful. Called a number of HF stores in the state (four within a ninety minute drive), third claimed to have one. I asked that they confirm, and could they hold it for me? They call me back to tell me that it is at the front counter with my name on it (which was the wrong name).
The wife and I get there, and they say "oh, we just noticed that it doesn't have the required paperwork, so we cannot sell it to you, you'll have to come back in a few weeks. After explaining that we weren't from across town, but had travelled to pick it up, they offer the next size up at the same price. Nice trailer, but it's the same size as the Miata, so no thanks.
Then, they offer to send me to the other location on the other side of town (further from home), since they show one in stock. I ask them to call and make sure it is held, and that it has it's paperwork. Well, you guessed it, it was there, but no paperwork.
I finally convinced them to let me take it home, and they can mail me the necessary paperwork, since they didn't want to ship the whole thing (which does make sense).
So know I have a trailer that I won't be putting together until I have the paperwork, since I can just imagine what the future holds for this thing.
I'm guessing the "paperwork" is the certificate of origin that you need to register it?
In Ohio you just need a weight slip to register it as a home built, not sure about your state.
You can register any trailer in Maine without having to be a resident. Super easy too.
With the cert of origin I can get a permanent (doesn't need renewal) for something like $25. Can't argue with that. Just need the paperwork. They called after my post, I need to I bow everything to get the vin# from one of the pieces. Wish that I had known that before I put it behind other things in the shed.
