I'm very seriously thinking about hard wiring a battery charger into my RV. Anyone with experience and has a list of dos, don'ts and recommendations?

Most RVs have that feature built in.  Just leave it plugged into shore-power and it makes 12v for all the 12v equipment inside plus feeds the batteries.   You only need a 110v adapter to put on the cable to plug into a 110v circuit.  (Available at Wallyworld, Camper World, etc)   I did that for many years.

It appears my inverter/charger is acting up. Im going through diagnostics now. Wierd part is that the house side is charging fine, just the chassis side isn't. It's a Xantrex freedom 458. And, im getting mixed messages on whether it should charge the chassis.  It certainly seemed to be.

Some do and some don't.  With the engine off, you can check and see if voltage at the chassis battery goes up when you plug into shore power.   If not there are products like the TRIK-L-START which will add that feature for about the cost of a battery tender.   Think of it like a battery tender that runs off 12v instead of 120 AC.

Don't know what would happen if you put a charger on a circuit that the inverter is also charging.  not an electrical engineer.  If I put a charger on I would disconnect the battery to be safe.

ON my unit if the chassis battery is low, there is a switch to flip to tie in the house battery to help.

In reply to SEADave :

The main panel had been consistently showing around 13.5 volts on both chassis and house. Now the only way to get power on the chassis side is with my jump box. Im going to get a battery charger tomorrow.  It may be a breaker issue but im not sure if the breakers are a diy or have to be done by a tech. On a definite learning curve on these electrics

In reply to Purple ends up that the main positive terminal was lose. It's a connector issue,  so im going to hve to replace the connector.  That'll be fun as it's about 18" into the chassis after I pull the battery tray
