Transaxle might make the packaging interesting, but I have thought of it in the past when seeing a totalled Vette.
Super locost light weight version: mount a side car so it's hanging on the torque tube, call it a day.
Found it! There's no reader's rides entry for it but you can see it here, belongs to jmc14:

on the Locost USA forum there is someone that did that but without the torque tube, using an adapter to connect the transaxel to the motor to make a V8 mid-engined Locost, that one was automatic though.

Like That...
That was the original idea for our Lotus build. Drop Lotus body over the Vette chassis. Wheelbase and track are the same... Instant 1600lb rocket.

Oh hell yes! One pod for the driver, the other for the fuel, batteries etc to balance it out, squeeze in a radiator somewhere and cackle like a supervillain forever

Hmmmm, is that an old Offy???
Only concern I would have is that the cast aluminum subframes on a Corvette are huge and ugly. I suppose you could paint or powdercoat them though.

Supposedly yes. If I identified the car correctly, it's the "Hurst Floor Shifter Special" built by Smokey Yunick.
