Headed to a Bullring on the Weekend

My wife was away for the weekend and I was trying to figure out something fun to do with the boys. I thought that I had not been to a see stock cars in a while and the boys have never seen them.

Now the nearest track for us is not exactly local - 3 hour drive each way but we headed out Sat. afternoon for a 6 pm start.

You would never guess from the picture but the boys enjoyed it!

and I don't think I have ever seen one of these running in Mini-stock anywhere!!!

Bottom line is even though the left turn only stuff isn't my cup of tea, we watched 3 hours of pretty exciting racing (get 23 Late Models on a 1/3 of a mile and you are going to get some close racing!!!), had some ice cream on a hot evening and had some good father-son(s) time on the weekend!

The closest weekly track to me, Illiana Speedway, closed this year. Now the closest tracks are Rockford and Slinger.

I lived for a summer in the twin cities area for an internship in grad school. I had precisely zero friends there. Going to Elko Speedway on Saturday nights was pretty much what I had to look forward to all week that summer.

They had some picnic tables set up in the middle of turn 3/4. A 50 lap feature, the smell of race gas and marbled up race rubber, and a cold can of beer was mighty nice.
