I've got some Honda heads that I think are d series Civic heads, but can't find much in the way of identification. Could go to Honda boards, but all i see there is a lot of argument and flaming, and besides, this really is the Borg. If it ain't know here, it's not worth knowing . So I ask the great collective to shine some light for me. One head has really shrouded chambers, to the point that I am thinking it's probably some kind of d15, the other is really open, maybe a d16 or even an Accord head? Other thing, I was going to try baking soda blasting the chambers and valves. Stupid move or ok? Pics below. Thanks guys.

Are these heads not in your possession? They should have a code.

Crap, wrote all that and forgot to mention the codes. One head says PAA-1, the other PSJ-4. Thanks Dave, I was hoping you would pop in.

Pretty sure the PAA-1 is a Honda Accord 2.3 (F23). If it's a Vtec version it will have a small solenoid (I think) on the back left corner of the head.

Not sure on the PSJ-4.

Are you sure it's PSJ and not P2J? P2J-4 would be a 96-00 Civic EX, which looks a lot like what you have pictured.

probably a P2J-4 as I can be a bit dyslexic. Is that the Y-8 head then? Thanks Dave and Steronz!! Can soda blasting clean these up a bit? Can an F23 head bolt up to an F22 motor? Thanks guys

Yes, the P2J is a Y8 head. You can put the F23 head on any SOHC F-series block, but it's generally not done since the VTEC and non-VTEC engines were rated so close together, and the non-VTEC engines are lower compression. We're talking a 5-10 hp bump, at best. That's not worth the headache of figuring out wiring and potentially rerouting coolant hoses.

No idea about soda blasting, someone else will have to chime in.

Good head. The other I'm not sure about.

Personally I would use WD-40 or Kerosene to clean them, unless it's just the outside of the head. Too many chambers for the soda to get into.
