So long story short...

Raced SCCA, that turned into CSS and and TPM track days (04 zx6rr), had a kid (my little daughter 1 1/2 years old now) got out of motorcycles, wanted to build a time attack car, ran into issues, now have a drag car ( my uncle built a few years ago and sat)

BUT it can't handle... 91 Camaro... So my uncles have me on a learning curve with carb'ed engines. Used to FI.

So I want to build either a little track car for weekends (scca) or go full blown with a time attack car again. I have chevy v8's available (small blocks and big blocks on top of a few lsx blocks) that I would like to throw into a car possibly more nibble than a domestic car.

Long winded but HELP ME PICK AN IMPORT TO SWAP! would prefer one that already had existing swap components available.

A few on the list that wouldn't break budget (and add more if you know of any)

240sx (s13/s14, 240z, RX7 (1st gen), 300zx, AE86

Just be like everyone else and stuff an lsx into a foxbody. huge aftermarket no matter what you want to do! If your stuck on an import i have little to offer other then a first gen rx7 with a smallblock looks like a good time

I have been looking at RX8, I found a couple with blown motors for $4k. If my job was more stable I would love to do a LSx swap to one.

V8 Porsche 914 or 944?

C4 vette (sone that one myself)

Sbc rx7 are a hoot to drive

Make the third gen camaro handle and use it. American iron used to have a bunch of them, so it must be feasible.

you have a capable car in the camaro. un-drag it and put a road race suspension under it. no need for a new platform, swaps, etc. unless you like having a drag car around too.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice and my overlooks on the miatas and porsche.

Id like to keep the camaro for DD/Drag. A lot of work would need to take place to set up for road race and my wheel options are very limited unless I run spacers...

Forgot to mention id say max spent on a car would be 2500... would that hit my limits down on what I can grab?

$2500 for just a roller? You could probably do anything mentioned except the 911. I hope that's not your budget for the build.

have you developped a budget for the entire project?

I can get you a complete 250 Porsche 914. Needs to have a tube frame built...

If it was my money I would have a hard time going against a Miata. Or a full on tube framed car with carbon fiber 1985 Cadillac Coupe De Ville silhouette body work on it.

No not for the build. My Last build which I ended up dropping because well... ive been in imports for 5+ years and really after some knowledge from my uncles, and more open mindedness ive realized displacement is very enjoyable and more reliable than a turbo4.

I was embarking on a 4g63 swap into a subaru rs, but I like a v8 loads more. Id say overall starting budget is 2500 for a car/shell 8-10k for overall build

I'd say your best bet for that budget is a miata.

1st gen RX7 would fit that budget easily.

I was looking into this a bit further.... The engines minus the lsx (2) that my uncles have available for me are carb'ed... Meaning clearance may be a factor with some (Miata, rx7, 240z)

I almost like the idea of a carb engine in one of these cars (more simplistic to work on or even boost)
