So, my hybrid power steering pressure hose didnt work to well. Popped and covered everything in fluid.

What i need:

1989 ford 5.0 power steering pump.

1997 jeep grand Cherokee steering box.

Ford has some berkeleyed up fitting i cant describe.

Jeep box is an o ring.

I need to connect the two in the cheapest and most reliable way possible.

I now have nothing to work with, and my two factory hoses i had connected are now garbage.

Is the a factory hose off something with these ends already? Other ideas and options?

Were down to about 125 in the budget and it still hasn't moved under its own power.

Is this the hose you had made? What part popped? From a quick search it looks like others have had these hoses made and they're working, any chance they just did a poor job making the hose?

Rubber blew apart. Thereby junking both parts.

Stampie: im not man enough to turn it with a 10 inch steering wheel, 2.75 lock to lock box, and race slicks that put 14 inches on the ground at each corner.

You think it was just old rubber? I can hit the junkyard again if you want to piece something together.

I was going to say get fitting out of jeep box at junkyard and send that and the ford fitting up here and i'd tig them together so you could use an off the shelf jeep hose

Jeep used Saginaw. So did gm. I even think some Ford's did. I wouldn't be surprised if a stock hose existed.

P.s. looping the lines makes steering 10x easier than no power. Try it again with the lines looped....

Those boxes are really high effort to turn without power assist no matter what you do. Especially with big, sticky tires.

Well, E36 M3. I berkeleyed the jeep end fitting on removal.

Looks like i cant send parts.

Anybody know of a factory hose with these two ends?

A little research says the threads on the Ford pump output are 3/8-16. One hose I found describes the attachment as "swivel o-ring type I". The Jeep box is an 18mm fitting.

If I'm reading things right the Ford pump output is a 3/8 double flare with 5/8-18 threads, standard 45* flare stuff, most brake flare kits go that big. If the hard line ends of the Jeep hose are 3/8 tubing you could run the Jeep hose with the weird flare on the pump end cut off, and get it connected to the pump with a section of hard line (available off the premade brake/fuel line rack) and a compression or flare (preferred) union.

The ford pump is actually some eeally funky setup. Nut seals with a Teflon washer, metal barb seals with an o ring. Whole thing still swivels when tight.

My idea this morning was to cut the ford end off the current setup, buy a jeep hose and cut the pump end at the metal tube. Inverted flare both pieces and join with a union.

Thoughts?

That sounds to me like it would work.

That would work assuming the jeep hose reaches correctly. If it doesn't two unions and a piece of hard line could be used.

Im fairly certain that the jeep hise will reach well enough assuming that i cut the metal in the correct places.

If you do decide to go manual you can have the AMC box off Uncle Ben for the price of postage. They're probably still the same housing and likely a higher ratio.

We still have the stock power steering box in the scrap pile. Its a low enough ratio that i MAY be able to turn it depowered when moving. Maybe.

Glue has a lower coefficient of friction than these slicks.....

I bet. Do you have e any idea what the scrub radius is?
