I guess that in a year or two, it will be TH-350 time.
Or consider the 700r4. Its basically a th350 with an overdrive. Should be pretty easy. I think they are a little longer, so you would need a shorter driveshaft and a different crossmember, but that stuff should be easy to find. Then with the OD you can swap to some deeper gears, which I think you talked about on here before, correct?
200-R4, better ratios than the 700-R4.

I'm really curious about why and how your mechanic was checking your transmission fluid.
Whelp, it was fresh off the trailer, and he was giving it the once over. He pulls the trans dipstick, wipes it on his fingers, sniffs it, and says that someone put motor oil in the ATF.
Isn't atf pretty much just 5 or 10 weight oil?
It's very different from engine oil...it usually contains wax for one thing. Here's a BITOG thread on the topic:

ATF is probably more akin to hydraulic fluid than motor oil.

I was wondering how he could tell. Maybe the feel and consistency of it wasn't right. Thankfully coolant wasn't poured in the trans reservoir.
I'm not sure how you can ascertain that from pulling a dipstick out and sniffing it, but whatever, we'll go with it.
Won't hurt anything, might make it shift a little firmer (good thing) come to think of it, motor oil not having various friction modifiers present in dex/merc. Viscosity increase is probably a non negative as well. If it really bothers you, do a pan drop and fill it back up with Valvoline maxlife.

I'll probably keep it as-is, until I can buy a 200-4r and a new gauge cluster.
What do you have now? 200C?

A small can of brake fluid in the ATF will stop the leaks and make the clutches grab well enough to get the dealer to take a clapped out minivan on trade.
Or so I'm told...
