My brother and I were talking just now about cars and what to do with them... he wants a bicycle that i have and passed the idea to trade his 1998 Dodge neon sohc 2.0 5spd. for it. to which i said Berkley yeah! To which I then said "I guess i'll need to sell the Mercedes since two projects in a two car garage isn't gonna make my wife very pleasant to live with"

We got to talking more on the subject and it turns out that he needs to get rid of his neon anyways because his GF's daughter is about to start driving and would prefer an automatic. long story short He suggested that instead of trading for the bicycle he would trade the neon plus some cash for the Mercedes, which to me makes an E36 M3 load more sense than trying to make a mercedes into a challenge car. It really is too pretty to strip down and would make an awesome high school car for his Lady's girl. The neon looks beat to hell but with a bit of tlc could be a really nice Challenge car and the thing really goes like hell.

the Question is this since I have roughly $1000 into the Mercedes already and I trade the Merc. for the neon plus $500 where does that put me in relation to my $2011 Challenge budget?

Here's the break down...

Car; $800 Towing ;$105 wheels :$100

do I only count the $500 against my budget since it is a trade plus the cash or how does that play out?

Any insight, thoughts or dialogue concerning the matter especially from any past challenge competitors would be most helpful.

                                  Chris.

If I'm following this - I'm thinking you've got $1400 or $1505 in the neon. Not sure on having the towing included for money spent on a non challenger

In reply to oldtin: the original car the mercedes cost $800 then to have it towed from the car lot to my house was $105 then i bought wheels for the mercedes for another $100 putting me in at a grand total of $1005...I think you might be right on not counting the towing against it bringing the total down to $900.

Then I take this $900 car that was going to be my challenge car and trade this car to my brother for his car and in addition to his car he gives me $500 cash knocking my total down to $400 spent so far, is that correct?

He gets a prettier car for the girl and i get a more capable car for the challenge and if that is the case I am left with $1611 worth of budget to work with.

I can tell you that unless you put the Neon in the top 5 nobody will really care. Show up in a top 20 Merc on the other hand....................................

Thanks for keeping me straight...i started doing research on Neon's and found no matter how much i wanted to like the little cars for what's beneath the skin it's still a fugly ass car... and nearly all the neon videos on you tube were rather ricey

no offense to any neon guys but i just had to get that thought outa my head as it did kinda make sense for a minute. and i could never mate this with a neon.
