Good luck. Not mine, etc...

http://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/4755776297.html

This is a 1976 Porsche 912E. The vin number is 9126000581, the manufacture date is 9/75, Paint code is 624-9-3 and the engine number is 4060613. It was modified by the previous owner and the rear fender flairs were welded in along with rocker panels and door pillar work. This work needs to be finished. It was primered over. I do have the fender cutouts if someone wanted to put it back to original. It appears the doors were off another car, they have power windows and I am missing the front part of the harness so I raise and lower the windows with a jumper box. Some sunroof parts are missing so it is not fully operational, the metal tubes for the cables are not there. The driver's side door handle is broken. The door panels and associated hardware is missing and the headliner is shot. I have the owner's manual which gives some early history. It was purchased from California Porsche Audi in November 1975. The last record of service recorded in the owner's manual was December 1977 with 20919 miles. After that there are no records. The previous owner registered it in Connecticut in November 2008. In August 08 he replaced all fuel injector seals, gave it a major tune up, valve adjustment and replaced push rod seals. Steering column and pedal bushings were replaced and the air flow meter. Then in October 08 replaced rear calipers pads and rotors. Front pads rotors and wheel bearings were done and clutch cable was changed the odometer reading was 81836 at this time. He then brought it to a body shop to have the metal work done and gave up on finishing it. The car has 82000 on the odometer now. The car starts right up and is a blast to drive. I do not have it registered. It can basically be driven as is or, restored to original or, continue to go with the Carrera look. The car is sold as is where is with a with a bill of sale, there is no title, Connecticut does not issue titles on cars pre 1981.

Slap a coat of battleship gray Rustoleum on it and drive the crap out of it as is. I like the idea of a mechanically sound beater Porsche.

Always liked 912's much more than 911's. Having said that, man fixing those rear fenders is gonna be a beeyotch.

Im glad that some of the less then stellar bodywork hasn't been finished over yet. This car could be made quite fresh and the interior is in excellent shape. I have some contacts in the area that are going to check it out for me. Thanks for sharing it!

Why is this so far away from me? WHY!!? Oh that's right, I won't have room at the new house for this till I get the Bimmer AND the Camaro out of it's project coma anyways. So, carry on.

You guys can keep the wide flares, I'd take it back to narrow, add period factory style auxiliary lights and a ducktail for a mini RS America tribute.

I love the wide flares. I wish I had the nerve to DD one. Even the wife likes the idea.

I think the rear flares would be a cakewalk compared to the rockers and doorjambs.

Honestly, I just linked this ad because I thought that this car was such a bad idea. I'm pretty sure that this is the same car that was for sale for most of the year in another part of the state for $9500. I had emailed the previous owner a few times, and if it hadn't had the flares welded on so poorly, I might have considered it as a track car, but decided to pass. It looks like a new owner has cleaned it up a bit but it doesn't appear that he was in it for the long term. Or for profit.

I could fix that when I put on the slant nose and coke dealer white paint.

Even under the awful flares, it looks like it's already had at least one rear quarter panel welded in.

And, if I recall correctly, the wheels are cast replicas of the forged Fuchs.

I passed on a very clean & original '69(?) 912 around 1998 for $10k. It wasn't faultless - there was a stripped spark plug, and there was a spot in the chassis that needed re-welded. My former dentist ended up getting it and got it back on the road.

I've been to a lot of Porsche shows. There are surprisingly few head explosions.

That looks like just about the worst $7500 I could think of spending.

It's a 911 that hasn't been infected with a 911 engine. What's not to like?

It's a beat to hell 911 missing power, add rust and general hoopty-ness.

if it is one of the rarer 912's there is a group in charlotte that buy the bodies JUST for the vin then make an entire new body by hand... pretty amazing to watch them at work.
