Sounds like he didn't do a very good inspection when he bought the car. I noticed that while the rear seat upholstery looks great, he also was careful to not include any picture of the front seat where the most wear will be located.

At about $3K it seems fine.. more than that a bit harder to pay for as described...
It's a pretty cool car but restoration parts for these, even the more popular coupes (like the Rebel Machine), are near non-existent. It's not like a Chevelle or Malibu wagon where you can and order new parts. The only place you are going to find, say, the rear window mechanism is either some AMC hoarder's NOS stash or another Rebel wagon at the junkyard. Not sure about you, but I don't exactly trip over these at the Pull-A-Part either.
The good part is that the shock towers look solid, which was a rust spot on these. Also, AMC kept the same basic front suspension until the very end, so you can do cheap disc brake swaps with Spirit or Concorde or Pacer or Gremlin parts. The AMC engine was a "medium-block" design, like Pontiac, so anywhere there is a 290, you can bolt in a 304 or a 343 or a 360 or a 390 or a 401. And Control Freak Suspensions now has a completely redesigned front suspension and 4-link that is designed specifically for AMCs now if you want to build a Pro Touring Rebel SST Wagon
