I happen to think the top-spec Corolla sedan is pretty dang sharp. Dropping a 250hp version of the GR 3cyl with AWD would be killer.

I'd doubt they would make a lower spec one with awd. Probably would be liek a regular corolla with a turbo engine if they did that which would ofc be fine and fit the whole "st" idea

I thought they did?

The Camry TRD is in the right direction but lacks - no HP gain and well, Camry's are kinda heavy and boring.  Better exhaust, lowered, nice TRD wheels, and no sunroof but is it a performance version?

Can they give us a low cost performance Corolla @ $30,000?

Toyota did make a very short-lived (and rare) sport package for the Corolla Sedan last year called the Corolla Apex Edition. Basically, it's an appearance and handling package, and didn't offer anything else performance-wise. Reviews basically said that it just made it less comfortable to drive and offered no real benefits. I agree that the current Corollas look great, and offering a slightly more powerful flavor to slot in between the GR and the base ones would be cool, a-la the Civic Si.

IIRC, the Corolla can be had with AWD, so you don't need the complex system from the GR, just give the standard AWD system as much HP as it can handle.

Is this what we really want?

I can't bring myself to get excited about anything Toyota makes, since their distribution model is sending random E36 M3 to dealers and good luck finding one even close to the spec you want.

Sorry no pics, but last night I followed a new, lowered Corolla hatch–not a GR, just a “regular one.”

It looked good.

Where i've lived you have to travel out of state to buy a car and not overpay out the ass anyways. I'd have no problem traveling for a car like this.

I'd go buy a Camry TRD tomorrow if they put a manual in it! 300hp should be plenty!

Edit: They also have to offer it in a color. I just looked and right now it only comes in black, grey, or white. Pair your performance variant with the fun transmission and the fun colors people!

While I'm not a fan of the Camry TRD, mainly thanks to the styling, I do love the Avalon TRD, catfish mouth and all.

One of these is on the list to replace my Forte GT at some point if I can find a clean example.

This treatment, with a 200ish HP turbo 4 or a detuned version of the GR's 3 cylinder in the Corolla, would be great.

Isnt the regular Corolla already at 160-170hp?

Maybe just a bump to 200hp, LSD and some more suspension tuning. Call it a Corolla GR-Lite.

In reply to Tony Sestito :

The only issue is both TRD's use the same 3.5 V6 so the Avalon is now heavier and bigger and slower but not bad if you want a boulevard cruiser.  Comfort and luxury over "performance "?

The only way I see to get an AWD Corolla sedan is to get the hybrid. Have I missed something?

True. In my case, this will be an "old man car" highway bomber, so the extra space works for me. I do wish they spiced them up a bit more, though.
