Hey guys, I just figured I'd sort of re-introduce myself. I use to be on this board all the time when I was a teenager learned alot about cars through it. When I bought my 1997 Dodge Neon project the other day I thought about you guys and wondered if the board was still around. Sure enough it is alive and well. I decided to go ahead and make a profile so if any of you guys want to know anything else about me just take a look.
Also, I just bought my neon in kinda bad shape. I hope to fix it up and turn a profit as I just spent a couple hundred on it. If anyone has any tips about that certain car I should know then please enlighten me. I'm looking for some parts too; so, if anyone has a parts car please tell me cause I'd like to buy some stuff.
PS Wow! This board has gotten an upgrade since 2002!
GRM just did a series on a Neon, check it out
and welcome to the dark side
ok, fine... as I trudge out to the driveway with the stupid digi camera that I don't really know how to work.
It may be tomorrow until I get them up though because I have to ask my girlfriend to upload them cause I'm kinda dumb.

As long as you TRY to learn, its all good. Its the people who think 'i CANT understand these newfangled things!' that get left out to dry. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
More details on the neon, please. Year, body style, engine, tranny, options, etc ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)
1997 Neon ( I think it's a sport model but not sure) Sedan
If someone could tell me how to tell the difference that would be awesome.
It's purple.... so we call it "the jellybean"
it has the DOHC 2.0L, thank goodness it's not the SOHC
power windows in front
I think I got the picture thing figured out let me finish dinner and I'll give posting them a try
Sorry for the lack of punctuation in the last post. Apparently it doesn't matter if you switch to a new line.

Welcome back! There are quite a few Neon people on the site (me included). You should have no problem finding help with them here.
The easiest way to spot a Sport model is the foglights on the front bumper cover. If it looks like a jellybean color it's likely a Magenta; Neons also came in Amethist, but it's a much more subdued hue of purple.

That's where the door panels are!
The reason the radio is out is because it wouldn't work because of bad fuses. They aspired to put in a different one but never got that far. Lucky me cause all the hook ups are still there!
Plenty of junk inside the car as well. No telling what I'll find. Already found several knives and lots of tools. Not bad for $340 after TT&L and this years registration.

Doesnt look like a sport.
I like the color, though!
I had a 95 sport sedan sohc/mtx that i put a 3.92 tranny into and it hauled butt up to 75 or so with REALLY basic mods.. The gearing difference really colors people's opinions of sohc vs dohc.
I can't make out if it is a manual (real car)
It's auto tranny. Really though, the idea is to resell it. So, with that in mind, it's better that it's auto, but it would be more fun for me while I have it if it was manual.
I'm really more of a motorcycle guy as far as toys go anyway. I'm kind of hoping to take the money from this car and buy a Honda F4i to do parking lot stunts on.

That's a Magenta. If you want to know why they are called Neons, just park a Magenta, an NYG (Gawdawful Lime Green), and a Lapis blue side by side.
Wear your sunglasses. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
We either call it "the Barney car" or "the Jellybean"

That annoys me too. For paragraphs, use two spaces right before the enter button.
Like this. Either that, or hit the button twice.
Like this.
That is a highline model. The single cam automatics are actually faster than the twin cam ones btw. The twin cam just has a bit more top end, other than that the 5 speed ones are pretty even.
What do you mean trudge out to the driveway? It's right there.
Welcome back and the answer is not Miata.
Dan
Either the hood has been replaced or it is really a SOHC car. No bubble.

Welcome back.
Get a car you'd like to mess with (toy) and hang around awhile...
I'll stick around for a while regardless. I like this board and the wealth of knowledge to be gained from it. I will get another car as a toy, it'll just be another year or so until I have the time. While I'm still in college and my son is really young, bikes are a little easier to play around with time wise.
I plan on getting a car to do some Solo II with, but I haven't decided what. I thought about using the jellybean for it at first, but I don't want to be working on a Daimler-Chrysler for too long. I hate working on them (sorry mopar guys).
