Ok, here's a weird one. I'm looking around for a Honda AZ or AN600 outer CV joint(s) Anybody know of a guy that has a stockpile? The rear axles on the LeGrand are a combination of 600 and VW 411 parts (!)
I've got some feelers out to the sources that I can find on the web..but you all are a good sources too...

Are you interested in keeping it original? As you clearly know, those are some oddball parts to track down. It might be worth your while to use different stuff these days. In either case, I'd be interested to see a picture of the rear axle/suspension setup to see why they were using such odd parts, if you had any pics handy.

Ive got a couple. It will be later before I can take a look to see if they are ok. What kind of condition do they need to be in? (Ive got an entire drivetrain hub to hub intact)
By any chance would they be similar to ATV CV joints? Might be worth checking into.
Found a few minutes before heading back to work. Im in Gville. I really don't have much desire to take all that apart. $20 and you can have it all! I will be back online after 8pm.

IIRC, Raxles isn't too far from you. I bet you could trade some ad space for a couple of hours with Marty figuring out something.
True, true. He's here in ol' G'ville. I bought front axles for my WRX from him. Great guy.

hey, that's exactly what I mean by freakin' resourceful.
My axles are actually at Raxles.com over in Gainesville now. Marty is taking them apart and seeing what's what. He knows his stuff, but hadn't seen 600 parts before.
MrJoshua, Yes, I want those axles, but I'm not in a position to get over there and take it apart. Is there ANY chance you could pull the axles off at the transmission joint and drop off the two axles/outer junk at Raxles? I'll obviously kick in more than $20 for that....or GRM swag....
What time frame are you working with? Let me tell you, I haven't quite figured out how to incorporate anything else into my life after getting the kids. Heck, I haven't mowed the yard in 3 months.

And yes, eventually I'll go to something more mainstream...but for now I'm rebuilding what's there to get a good baseline.
It'll be getting a real differential in a few month and since I'll have to shorten the driveshafts then, I'll probably also investigate different outers—something that fits in the 'factory' magnesium uprights.

Uh, yea, that's why I can't come over and do it myself. My 4 month old takes up all of my free time too.
I'll let Marty know that they are there in town and see if that's what we come to. I'd think that even crusty ones would have less use/wear than ones that have been raced on for years with 4x the power.
Jeez...you new dads! I have 2 little ones and copious amounts of free time.
I can help. Josh, if you're around this weekend, I'll swing by and do the taking apart. We need to work on our Challenge plans anyway.
I can then swing by Raxles next week. Per, can you confirm that Marty is around next week and not on holiday? I can get them there Monday or Tuesday.

Oh lord. Looks like I'm going to have to come by and supervise.
Hey Per,
There is a way to bore out the original magnesium uprights to use newer V-Dub outer CV's and stub axles. It sounds like you just want to stay "stock" for now but there is an option for later that allows you to keep the factory uprights. At least you have CV's on the inside, mine still has the rubber donuts! How'd the wheels turn out?

yea, that's what I'll probably end up doing, or using different hub to keep the 4x108 pattern in the rear.
Wheels look good. had them blasted, found an additional repair on one of the fronts, but it should be fine.

Excuse me? I believe that's my job. You do the work, I supervise. Maybe I'll pick up some super glue if you cut yourself.

You may not have to bore out the uprights. Depending on the size of the existing bore, you may be able to use conversion bearings. I don't know the current diameter, but if it's just 2mm smaller than the standard VW bearings, the Lotus Europa has some bearings that might fit. Either way, I'd call Taylor regarding your needs. When I was looking to convert my Europa to VW outer stub axles for the Hewland, Taylor was a LOT of help. Don't be put off by the other high-end race parts they sell.

Ok, it turns out that just the cages were worn and those were the same as first-gen Civic or Suzuki swift....so I think we're good. Raxles has the parts and has taken care of them....
I still expect you guys to drink beer, tear E36 M3 apart and build a Challenge car this weekend.
thanks!
Per
I told you Marty would know what to do.

Please don't dispose of those axles/outers. I'll take them, just don't need them today.
thanks
Per
We can still try to get to them this weekend. If not, they will still be sitting behind the shed, attached to the stock engine, waiting for the day they become useful to someone.
