Actually, since you mention fender flares...

I was in the "oh, it looks like a Honda" camp until I looked at the flares. They're pure Golf. I've spent a lot of time looking closely at Mk1 Golf flares as I fitted them to the MG, and that's them. Great looking flares, but definitely a VW styling cue. Add in the round headlights and the way the nose curves away underneath, and it's understandable why people see a Golf.

The window treatment is still CVCC.

If they had lifted or "bubbled" the hood slightly over the headlights like on the original CVCC, nobody would have said VW

Agreed. Outlining the old CVCC chrome "grille" in lights instead of the round ones would also be pretty effective.

Something about the super-clean lines reminds me of the Miata "Ibuki" show car from 2003 or so.  Not any of the actual lines, but the fact that it's completely shorn of any surface detail and looks like a rendering.

What's wrong with looking like a VW? I like that body style, a lot actually.

Nothing wrong with looking like one of the best styled hatchbacks ever made...unless you're a Honda show car marketing exercise. Then, maybe, it would be preferable to look more like a Honda.

That car needs to be produced right now. And in its current state. I love that thing. Especially if they can keep the stupid 109mph bumpers off it.

I like it a lot except the interior pic, which looks terrible.

I'm still not seeing it...The Golf flares taper much more than either the old or new Honda flares.

You don't see a taper? I do, especially from the back. Still, it's a round outline with a sharp lip on the edge. Far more VW than the flattened top used on Hondas. The way it curls into the roll pan at the back, too. It's not a carbon copy, but it seems to borrow more from the VW design language below the greenhouse than it does from the Honda.

Whatever, it's a cool looking car.

Looks cool but doesn't really matter because we won't ever get anything like that at a dealership.

Someone needs to sit down the group of designers who seem to believe touchscreens are the way to go and have stern conversation with them about how the field of human factors works. Either that or someone needs to radically rethink how the interfaces work.

Better yet, force them all to commute in whatever operational 1990 Buick Reattas you can find (without any concern for how the dash electronics have held up) for one month. That'll send them scrambling for a set of knob controls in short order.

The car itself doesn't look too bad, other than needing a more practical dashboard.

In reply to Keith Tanner :

It's not that I don't see "a" taper, but to me a VW has a considerably more aggressive taper to it.  It's kind of like the debate over whether an NA Miata looks like an Elan...All of which you are entitled to your own opinion on, no matter how wrong it may be. wink

I remember both from when they were new, and my recollection is that the CVCC Hondas bubbled everywhere! Around here, most had returned to the earth within 5 years. The early A1 Rabbits were also terrible, but by about 1978 they were much better.

Can it have an electric Motocompo in the trunk as a throwback to the City Turbo?

I very much appreciate the concept- and being a fan of Honda for a long time, I also like the styling.

But.  There have been plenty of "urban" cars put out on the market, and few have been successful.  Very few.  If I were REALLY doing an urban car, I'd be talking with NHTSA to change the crash rules for them, and make them glorified golf carts.  Which means that they would not be able to drive north of 40mph, even if they could easily accelerate to that speed.

Still, people never, ever buy just what they need.  They buy what they think they need.  And a dedicated urban car isn't that.

I like it a lot.

I also agree with alfa.  Nobody is going to buy just what they need when they can get way "more" for a similar price.

Now if this thing was priced at like $10k...
