I've got a handshake/verbal agreement to buy a hooptie. Worth the paper it's written on, but maybe it'll work out. And if not, there are other hoopties out there.
And she is a hooptie. Side pipes, has a misfire with a distinct gasoline smell.
Got a couple of the local guys going with me to look at it and be somewhat of a voice of reason to make sure I don't overlook something.

plan on the rear axle bearings being shot, if you hear noises from the rear that's probably it. Not a terrible job to replace them but usually they have been let go so long the axles themselves are worn. You can go with offset bearings which ride on an unworn portion of the axle or new axles while you are in there.
Misfire is likely bad coil packs, again not a bad job and can be done cheap, dont go with the cheapest coils you can find but last time I did it the MSDs were middle of the road in cost and a solid brand. Aluminum heads strip out and spark plugs dont have much purchase, thats a more involved repair so if there are any loose spark plugs think hard on how much effort you want to invest.

I'd like to DD it for a year, then rip the body, engine, and trans out and use the frame for a hat truck.
So I'm ok with some of that.
VIN doesn't show in most places, is that possibly due to a Police Interceptor package? (Two of the dozen sites claimed it was P.I.)
Bring it to the Challenge!

Definitely the goal.
Gonna have to get a fair amount of ducks in a row, though
Would this type of car be a good candidate for one of those stripped-down-beyond-the-bone go karts? You know... pull the fenders, all the glass, remove the hood and trunk... just get all the mass and weight out of it. An open wheel Crown Victoria. Formula Victoria.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
what is a hat truck? like a body swap with an old truck?

Probably. The Bradley GT body dropped on a shortened Panther frame with a roll bar cleaned up at the Challenge.... 2? 3 years ago?

You got it.
Fairly common with the Crown Vics these days. Hot Rod did one called the Crown Hick with a 60s F series. I want a Dentside F series with round headlights for mine

Do you mean the VIN tag is missing?

No, I have a pic of the door tag.
Roughly half of the websites don't return any results with the VIN. CarFax is one of them. The other half that do seem to call it a Police Interceptor.
I've never seen a vehicle not pull up. Kinda wonder if it is related to being a fleet vehicle?
Pulling it up via the license plate works, on sites that allow that.
One of these is the best $1500 I have ever spent.
Great cars.

Lately I've noticed some VIN sites come up short. Don't know why.
Fleet vehicle should not matter.
I imagine you've tried running the VIN via a Ford specific site?

I haven't, no.
I was more looking for any title issues or similar, not necessarily options. Are there Ford specific sites that do that?
Probably need to check the DMV.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
I've used this vin decoder multiple times:

I'd definitely check the DMV for any VIN berkeleyery.

"VIN DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE VALID"
Florida DMV works, turns up Bradenton P.D., but only one owner

The designator "P71" that everybody is familiar with changed to "P7B" beginning with the 2010 model year and lasting all the way to the end of production in 2011. What the point of this was, I have no idea.
