There are several things I like. 4 door hatchbacks. Turbos. Awd. Toyota. All of these things are in this car, and I really like the Corolla Im as is.

AWD, turbo, six speed hatchback. Actually available in the USA without waiting for 25 years to import legally.

And we're complaining about the number of doors?

Yup! I think it will be a home run (amongst enthusiasts). Reminds me when I bought my all trac celica new . Excitement

since Akio has been in charge, they have really done some great things, and will continue to .

Fact that current corolla hatch is even offered  with a  6MT, (albeit with current lackluster engine) is pretty amazing for Toyota, who has been pretty lethargic for a decade +

I miss my 10 MS3, and my 16 WRX. But I don't miss the junk quality.

Not sure I'm buying the notion that a 3-cylinder Toyota souped up to make 268hp is going to cure whatever problems you had with the two cars you mentioned.

That's some pretty great power from a 1.3L engine.

OK, cool, but this would be better if it was FWD and had a bigger turbo 4.  Basically a Focus ST with Toyota build quality.  Lighter, cheaper, less complicated.

So...who are they partnering up with? Because Toyota apparently cannot make any fun car these days without help.

I hope lots of people buy these so I can get a used one in ten years. Good on Toyota for making an effort to make cool cars again.

Berk you, I am keeping mine until the wheels fall off and I reattach them and they fall off again and the build thread will be 100 pages long.

For serious, I thought this was a repost of the Yaris/Gazoo vehicle.  My brain halted at "US Bound".

I was actually planning on fixing the S60R and selling it while the market is high and buying an Audi S3, settling like a bitch instead of holding out for an RS3.  Now I'm lusting for a Toyota.  I wonder if it comes in beige?

I will not lie.  Should the stars align and I buy one, it WILL be white.  And it will get a black hood.

God that's cool. Needs more N2 body work but it's still rad as hell.

I wonder what the price point is going to be. I can't see spending $35k for a Corolla but I also can't see it being cheap to produce, certify, and bring to market either. Sort of like how we ended up with a $36k Civic.

its going to have to be 30-35k for it to actually sell especially with the CTR being 37k msrp and the Veloster N being 30k(not counting the auto one yet)

the Focus RS was 41k msrp and the Golf R is 40k msrp. The STI starts at 37k

Put me firmly in the “like” camp. It looks like other manufacturers are stepping up to fill the void left by ford and GM.

It definitely got a visit from the same ugly stick as the Civic, but damn if that isn't a step in the right direction from Toyota.

I'm ok with the number of doors.

That reminds me, it had better get 50mpg, be able to tow a horse trailer, and embarass all the Model 3s in SS.

Have been seeing reports that it will be front wheel drive and will be introduced next year as a 2022 model, in the $30k ballpark.

2 many doors.

It looks like a downsized CUV with that slope on the hatch and how far forward the hinge point is. Is the hatch actually going to be usable space for anything other than mall bags? We have given up trying to get larger objects in the gf's Focus hatch, now we use my GTI for the hatch-y stuff and she uses her hatch for bags as must have been intended.

I'm glad to see Toyota branching off with the US market and challenging expectations but this doesn't do it for me. Then again, I'm not their market and it seems like they're getting kudos from most people so I guess that's a win.

I took another look at the picture and I think they might have a good looking car there. If they took off the back doors, brought the rear wheels forward, and made the hatch more vertical. They won't do that so they may as well just raise the ride height 2 inches and bill it as the crossover it looks like.
