Father-in-Law is asking. Any comments on the available engines (2.5 I-4, 1.6 turbo, 2.0 turbo)? I told him to avoid the Powershift transmsission, but how do you tell if a given vehicle has the Powershift or a regular six-speed automatic (6F35)? Is the AWD system good or bad?
Thanks!
The powerdump trans isn't anything awesome. I've worked on my wife's friends escapé several times. The local tire place won't do business with her anymore because they hate that vehicle. (Suspension pieces made of crackers)
The powershift isn't available on the Escape. Just the 6F family.
We will be going on our third modern Escape next week (assuming it arrives), and we like it a lot. The 2.0 turbo was able to tow what we have, but with a scale back, the current car is a 1.6 which will be replaced by the new 1.5.
None of the turbos like busy throttle driving- so if one can keep the foot calm- you get pretty darned good mileage.
Then again, my opinion can be seen as biased.
I cross-shopped the Escape and the CR-V. The Ecape feels heavier and is much quieter going down the road. It's also more gadgety. It's also much more powerful in the 2.0 guise. I ended up with the Honda because it was a better deal, but could've been happy with the Ford.
