With the demise of numerous 'printed' automobile related periodicals.....where do the columnists go for continuing sources/forums of financial compensation.....do these individuals seek(GRM/David W ) or vice versa? Steven Cole Smith comes to mind in this particular scenario..........

Maybe many are getting involved with the web-based versions of the magazines?
Sure seems that way with MOTORTREND.

AFAIK all the magazines that stopped printing just went web-only. It's definitely downsizing but it's not closing up shop totally.
Don't they all start youtube channels? I dunno because I didn't read the magazines, so would not know who they are/were

Super street is still active. They post daily on the FB page. Write articles, pics, etc. everything is a link.

I just got my Feb 2020 issue of Super Street in the mail. It is still a physical magazine. I didn't get my calendar though :(
TEN offered me 6 months of free Motor Trend Online when they shuttered Car Craft, so I guess that's fair enough, although I enjoyed reading CC, and I think my sub was good for another year and a half...

The answer is "it depends." Though you'll probably notice SCS's byline a lot more in the near future. ![wink wink](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/wink_smile.png)

I can read a magazine article in 60-100 seconds. I get bored and lose interest watching a 5 minute video where someone is talking about god knows what.
Online doesn't last. It will be a few months after going online they will be closed up there too.
While it's great for potential content not taking 90 days from covering a feature to seeing it in print, it misses the mark as you went from a captured audience, ie subscribers, to a now very passive way of capturing the same people, many of whom aren't internet receptive.

I was surprised to get a new issue of Super Street after the announcement, but I guess that was probably close enough to being ready that they pushed it out.
At least they bothered to contact you, in my case I'm subscribing to Car Craft via Zinio and have heard zilch.
In reply to BoxheadTim :
Was SS shuttered? I didn't think SS was owned by TEN, but I haven't looked.
EDIT: Upon further review, it is. Damn. I guess that last issue was the last issue.

When I posted this I was thinking along the lines of some of my favorite C/D columnists that happened to either leave well before or not be asked to come along with the new 'captain' as of September of this year. Those individuals of whom I speak are as follows; Aaron Robinson, John Philips, Kevin Wilson, Jeff Sabatini....there may be others, but these dudes were the real reason I had the subscription. So Tom, are any of these on your 'give em a call and see what happens' list for future editorial contributions....or is it more convoluted than that? And yes SCS is also on my list...wink
