So this is just some mental auto maturb....
So is this motor and associated transmission as good as they seem? They look to be good for 400hp with work and 350hp with simple (ish) bolt ons. Even on the most popular overrated online auction they seem like a decent deal with a transmission...
So they seem tough, the tranny is slick and make pretty good hp, am I missing something?
I've never touched one, but I think they're overshadowed by the RB26DETT so that's where the big money gets spent. I always thought the RB25DET would be a great option for a Cobra replica instead of the common domestic V8's that are normally used.
RB25DET is a very good powerplant. Longer stroke than the RB26DETT... and can be made into quite a decent torque monster with the Tomei stroker kit(2.8)
Not only a simpler set up but more potential than the RB26DETT, or so I've heard.
This might help

^^^ also 3k less for motor and tranny.
Since they dont make cheap 833 swaps for an A body... just thinking of a good way to make good power and finagle a 5 speed in the deal. and probably 20 mpg or better in a 3200lb car to boot.
I don't see anything wrong with that setup, it was a great drivetrain overshadowed by it's successor.
I had a friend a few years ago looking to do something different with his Fox Body Notchback and he looked a RB25DET as an option. He never went through with it, but it would have been cool.
I have been thinking of doing a oddball project with an RB25DET
I believe the engine complete with a 5 speed attached weighs about 750lbs
