So it's a shameless plug for me more or less.
Anyways I'm sure I've annoyed a few of you all with my "help me, I have no idea what I'm doing posts". I'm reminiscent of this picture...

I'm getting to the point where I can find the resources over seas for parts and figuring out what I can do, in part due to a few of the members on here.

I owe a huge shout out to a few members, one is oldopelguy, a dude with a picture of a white gt, broken Yugo (I think) and I'm sure others that I'm not remembering.

Anyways I've had an issue with the Opel which I think I bothered you all with. Long story short there is oil coming out the air box, not good...

I've made a couple YouTube videos on just diagnosing what's going on with the motor. It's kinda fun to do but the time and effort put in to these five minute videos is slightly ridiculous. I'm just trying to gauge interest and possibly gain feedback of how I'm doing.

This will be the first time rebuilding a motor. I've done one before with my father (I helped a little but was more interested in anything but family at that point in my life) and was about to legitimately help this time before I was shipped off to Europe.

I guess to kick off the post I'll show the first two videos I made. One is a vacuum gauge test and the second is a compression test.

First off, oldopelguy is a seriously nice dude, has a bunch of cool old Opels, and doesn't get enough recognition for being rad.
I love learning about new things. If I could take apart every cool motor myself I'd be a happy guy, but short of that, I'd love to watch you do it.

If you haven't bought rebuild parts yet give me a chance to make some calls before you do. There is a rebuild recipe using some Vauxhall Viva parts that will let you take your motor up to @1300cc and get you some halfway decent performance while probably costing you less in parts.

Lol talk about oldopelguy coming in clutch!
I'm super interested in that. Parts alone I've priced out to 269.99 for main/rod bearing, pistons, and a full motor gasket kit.

I'll share the build thread I got going on too.

Rebuild anything mechanical and us wierdos will watch! Video every seemingly boring (to you) detail and post it on the Tube of U's...

This board is so cool...

I know there's a couple AZ dudes on here, I should try to organize a quick gathering.

And post away on the rebuild, a) it's good inspiration, b) maybe I'll be shamed in to getting my old gray 320i running....

I love YouTube build videos...it's like a build thread but suddenly I feel enabled by watching others work. Please continue making vids...

Lol just about everything is ready to be removed from the car.

To motor mount bolts and the for trans bolts plus a little interior work.
I should probably start editing

Made another video. This one is just documenting the process of preparing the motor before pulling it out. I tried to include as much useful info as possible!

You might have missed a step, always test compression with the throttle held wide open, it can read low if you don't (since the throttle's job is to keep the cylidner from gettign a full charge of air). That's kinda unimportant if one hole is only making 10psi though, it will be interesting to see what's causing that.

You'll need to log in to post.
