Y'all running a timer? We got a bait well timer, that way the driver doesn't have to mess with it and the ice lasts longer. They're usually around $40, maybe a little cheaper at Wally World. We've also taken to using frozen water bottles instead of crushed/cubed ice, doesn't get quite as cold but it lasts longer.

The bigger the individual pieces of ice, the slower it will "release the cold." Crushed ice would be very cold for a very short time, and the bottles act like huge ice blocks.

Didn't know there were nice compact 12v timers like that available, I'll have to look into one for my system.

Man, a few years back some guys at Nelson Ledges were talking about doing a 48 hr. crap can race. I thought that sounded crazy.

2 drivers for 24 hrs, is seriously nuts though. People would start dying of heat stroke. I like it.

Up until 1982, two driver teams were the norm. That's 3 4 hour shifts per driver. Tough? Hell yes.

The short of it is if you can not afford to ball it up and leave it at the track leave it at home. An old timer told me this when I was just getting started and it was the best advice I ever got.

Said the same thing to the young man who spun at the Downhill at Lime Rock and wadded up his Toyota. Complete driver failure, and now you could get any 3 wheels to touch the ground, but not all 4. He was wondering how he was going to get to work the next day, and then realized "I still have payments on this thing". Short career in track driving.
