Nobody's mentioned the possibility that the instructor was off his medications, had a physical condition or some other mitigating factor. Given that HOD has a very good reputation, which means that the guy has exibited competence and experience, a "problem" instructor should have been screened out. We're spending an awful long time ripping on the guy without hearing the full story. Not that he wasn't entirely out-of-line, and his actions inedefensible. But most of us are a-holes now and again, and there's always a reason - not just a random outburst.

I see what you're saying but i think we ALL need to get called out and pounced on when we take our personal frustrations out on people we barely know. Mitigating factors might elicit some pity, but nothing un-does him being a jackass that one time. If any of us have moments like that we need to regret them and try to make sure they dont happen again, not go complaining about how victims and bystanders overreacted to our lameness.

huh? unprepared instructors not having electronic gadgets? come on man, we do this for FREE. And believe me, when I instruct, I am animated enough that the student knows exactly what I am conveying, he doesn't need to hear me. I sit in the pax seat totally looking at my student, watching his/her every reaction and watch the track in my peripheral. I try to give an aura of confidence to a new person by doing this.
I have been told I am very good by students, am I ??
heck I dont know? lol But I enjoy the day as much as they do!
This instructor was a total dick, I have seen a few people like this, one like this instructed my Son in w2w in my club. Son was just as gracious as this driver, but knew better, and he just rode the day out.
But please dont think that unpaid instructors need to come to the track with x number of dollars of gadgets to instruct.

where I run they aren't doing it for free.... at least not totally free, since they are getting free or greatly reduced price track time... that said at 80 - 100 mph with the windows open I can't hear what you have to say, especially if you have a full face helmet ... and you better hope you're not so animated that I pay more attention to you than I do the track....lol... and when I decided to buy my own communicator was after a first time instructor (doing it for the track time) no where near as bad as the the one here but still pretty bad, especially since I couldn't here him, and it was a new track for me
but we got through it ok and he signed me off and all was good..
Im sure you guys remember these 2? Makes me laugh everytime!
