So my friend's dad has owned a 635csi with a turbonetics kit and a Dinan ECU. I'm just wondering, how rare are they?

Dinan still makes a lot of parts and ECU chips, and they aren't exactly rare...the question is whether it is an actual Dinan-built car with a turbo kit (rare) or a regular 635csi with a bunch of Dinan mail-order parts and a turbo kit (not very rare).
If it's a true Dinan car, it would probably have a Dinan turbo kit, not a turbonetics kit.
Better question.
How much fun is that? How much power? M5 stomping power?
In reply to mr2peak:
I haven't driven it (i'm only 16) but it will chirp the tires all the way through fourth, and runs 20 psi. It's an animal.
C'mon now, guys. How many 635csi cars were ever produced? How many exported to the US? I'd suggest any 635csi is a rare car.
David
The funny part is I had not see a 635 for several years and just last week I saw two in the same day. Great looking cars.
In my teens a guy in town had a 633csi I drooled over it for years. I have not seen one of those in a long time.

About 86,000 6 series cars were built over the entire model run, about half were sold in the US. So while they weren't common, they weren't rare either. As for Turbonetics equipped cars, I don't know if there are any statistics available but they would be pretty rare (also note there were some 5 series cars with the same turbo, and probably a few 7 series as well since they all used the same drivetrain.)
"Semi-Rare" then and it sounds like a nice car. I agree a Dinan car would probably have the Dinan badge.

As I recall, you didn't get a Dinan badge unless a certain amount of Dinan modifications had been made to the car. For instance, if all you had was a Dinan exhaust tip, that wasn't enough to qualify.
In any case Dinan had their own turbo system, so this car sounds like it was put together by an independent shop or by the owner.
