It has been my DD for about 3 years, and I have gotten kinda tired of it, and it had a few problems I know will never be fixed while I own it that I don't want to deal with anymore (in order of important/annoyance: It leaks about 1/2 quart of oil every 3k miles, which is just enough to leave black spots everywhere I park it so I have to park it on the street at work, the heater blower doesn't work, and some other minor stuff like the radio and dome light dont work either).

Otherwise its still fine, and still looks pretty good. The other bad thing is the odometer is broken and it has at least 400-425k miles on it.

The headlights, wheels, springs and steering wheel should be worth ~$1k-1.2k, and the state would pay between $650 and $1200 to scrap the car. I rarely ever see other 300SDs that still look as nice as mine, but am I asking way too much?

Based on the mileage and price of diesel lately, I'd think ask closer to $2800, settle for ~$2000.

You are probably right, Id have a hard time affording something that would be an improvement if I sold it much under $3k though.

Looks like a nice one, might consider selling off some of the euro bits. The front end with euro lights looks nice. Hopefully you find the right buyer, nicest looking 300sd I've seen. It really is too bad these cars aren't worth much money. Why are you selling by the way? If the car is sorted and runs well I'd drive it to the ground, sell off the eurobits, then sell the car to the state.

Good luck with the sale!

Not to be a jerk, but that's your problem, not the market's. I'd have a very hard time paying $3000 as it stands for a 30-year-old non-specialty car with the better part of half a million miles on it, even IF the heater worked, even WITH the extra special parts still installed.

I'm mainly selling it cause I can't get it to not leak more oil than is acceptable to park at work, and I can't fix the heater blower. The headlights would probably be worth $200, the bumpers aren't worth much though, since I got the car I have seen probably 20 sets in pick and pull that all went to the crusher.

If it turns out that's its worth more to me than anyone else, that's ok too. If someone wanted to give me $2950 cash then they could have the car and all the parts I have for it, if not then I will keep it for now, or put some of the stock parts back on and sell it cheaper.

Good luck with the sale but I have to agree with Duke. Your problems aren't going to make the car sell for more.

Sell of the special parts and try to get the state to buy it for $1200 (which I have never heard of a state buying a car from a civilian BTW, must be a California thing)

I'm not all that worried if it doesn't sell, I could probably keep driving it another 10 years if no one else wants it. I have more just gotten bored driving the same car for so long than being in a big hurry to have it gone.

Then just keep it listed at the current rate and wait for an idiot to bite.

seems like the more simple solution is to carry a small drip pan in the trunk, and just put it under the car when you park it at work........not elegant, but just sayin...

Wait, it has a antisocial grade oil leak and the heater doesn't work? Drop a few hundred off my prior estimate.

The heater blower doesn't work, and I have to put in a quart every 1.5-2 months of everyday use to keep it at the full line.

I think it's one of those cars that's worth something to somebody, but nothing to most people.

I would humbly submit that the aftermarket parts won't be worth much to the average potential buyer. If there's value in them, then I'd sell them separately. Not many people want to be bothered to sell parts on forums/Craigslist.

Given the age, mileage, and outstanding issues, I'd say your asking price sounds high. I'd keep driving it and there's no harm in keeping the ad up. I would expect more interest once you drop the asking price below $3k.

Yeah, I would not buy a car with a broken odometer and high mileage for over $3k.

I know these things are good for a million miles, but I still get nervous when I see that many miles.

It is definitely nicer, inside and out, than my 84 300D with 200K and working dual tank WVO system, that I am asking 2K, getting a few bytes, most pumping me for info about running WVO. I will drop the price when it gets closer to the time to register it as registration is based on original MSRP in NH, and it costs twice as much to register as my 98 neon and 85 Class B Dodge van combined.

That being said, if it where not for the miles, I think 3K is reasonable.

If you've had it for sale for a while and it still hasn't sold, then yes you are overpriced. I have nothing to add to all of the the above, except part it out.

That happened to my W123 when the blower fuse kept blowing. I took out the ceramic fuse and wired in an ATO style holder.

I'm guessing its a "We don't have the money to spend, but we can't stand these old pollution monsters either, so SPEND SPEND SPEND, oh, and think of the children"

And as stated, I too feel you're a bit over priced. The only place you'll really get enough attention to get the most you can will be on the MB specific forums. It is clean, so I'd expect someone on there to appreciate it more than the CL crowd.
