So the CRZ threads got me thinking what is your definition of a sports car? Some one said that the CRX was a sports car and to my thinking it just isn't. Great car but I wouldn't call it a sports car.

This is the only definition that's not subjective. Every other definition falls back too much on personal preference, and the best you can get is a paraphrasing of the porn definition, "I know it when I drive it."
I have always thought small, light, and tossable. That covers most of what I think of as sports cars (including the CRX Si). I put the Mustang and Camaro under Pony Cars I suppose. Even the Corvette and 911 started out as small and/or light, so they fit.
Here we go again. I think we beat this horse to near death last year. The thread went on and on for page after page and my take away was that a sports car is in the eye of the beholder. I thought the horse was dead. Maybe this is a zombie horse this time. Or a cat-horse hybrid with 9 lives.
Ferrari gives up manual transmissions
Here's two examples where you can read everyone's opinions.
Sports Car: A car designed to have fun driving where you usually have to work on it more than you drive it.
Sports Car: Swoons the single ladies and once married is immediately sold.
Sports Car: A beige FWD 4-door sedan with a 4-cyl/auto and a "Sports Package!" with a rear spoiler.
Sports Car: Something trying to be fast and good-handling yet in reality would be absolutely spanked by a minivan.

So, is that a Jag XKE and Porsche 356? Soccer Mom's Revenge

So ... a Powerstroke that hits the drag strip once in a wile is a sports car, and a Testarossa that sits in a museum isn't. Got it.

You mean like this one? 92 PowerStroke Mustang
Well, since a PowerStroke is an engine, but not a car, then no...
A Testarossa that sits in a museum isn't a car, it's a decoration.
In reply to That idiot who can't spell:
Asking people to define "sports car" is like trying to light your own farts. Things are going to stink and you might just get your butt burned in the process.
The way I'd define it is thus: A sports car is any car built with joy and engagement in the act of driving paramount to all other concerns.
I am not sure I want to get into this quagmire but it does annoy me that few people seem to understand the difference between a sports car and a GT.
Why does the SPORTS CAR Club of America haave Soooo many classes? They are all just sports cars, right?
Subjective at best, and in my opinion (only an opinion) any car can be a sports car.
This is indeed a subjective quagmire. It can be almost as messy to ask for defintion of race car. My defintion of race car is "A vehicle in which every part serves the purpose of complying with rules or making it faster."
I would be interested to hear Otto Maddox's defintions of a Sports vs GT car.
In reply to Type Q:
I am begging for attack here, but I did bring it up.
In very general terms, a sports car is a two seat convertible and a GT is a 2+2 with a fixed roof. There are exceptions to both, lots of exceptions. But I'll go further out onto a limb and provide examples - a Miata is a sports car and a Porsche 928 is a GT.
what is your definition of a sports car?
purely subjective question -
my purely subjective answer...
a vehicle that I enjoy as often as I can........
I think the term has become increasingly meaningless over the past 40 years or so. A lot of people are saying it is a subjective question, basically rendering any answer meaningless.
