This is not how I expected to start the Sports Car Club of Vermont autocross season.
It's about a 90 minute drive to the sight from my home. Halfway there it started popping out of fifth gear. 🤔
Then third started acting up. Gear oil leak?
Get to the sight and check the car over. Sure enough there's a leak. The passenger side axle flange has pulled out of the trans. It's held in place by a spring loaded circlip inside the flange.
AAA for the ride home.
Pulled the passenger side axle. The circlip fell out. The spring washer behind it was inserted backwards!
Thankfully I'm a recovering VW hoarder and had the circlip and seal kit in my stash.
Bodged together a tool for pulling the flange to install the flange seal, and then made it work to compress the flange in far enough to get the circlip on correctly.
Two liters of synthetic gear oil, and Bob's your uncle!
Quick drive and all seems good. Need to go for a longer drive to make sure.
